Carol Doak's outstanding 40 Bright & Bold Paperpieced Blocks provides twelve inch designs in block style to be used as quilt foundations and inspirations. Eight projects cover wall to bed quilts, small and large. Blocks are gorgeous and provide fine examples of color-coordinated piecing.

Just flipping through this colorful book will make you yearn to start gathering fabric and start sewing. Each block is shown individually in vibrant color and arranged in "mini quilt" that shows how the block looks arranged in a grouping of 4 joined blocks. The facing page gives you the foundation layout for the block. Of course, copying the layout page also gives you a place to use crayons to play with color before committing to a fabric selection. Each block includes a cutting list with sizes and dimensions clearly outlined. The book starts with advice about selecting colors and gives illustrated step by step instructions on how to paper-piece. The book ends with photos of 8 completed quilts with fabric and cutting charts. Whether you need patterns or inspiration this book will motivate you!!

I think this was the first Carol Doak book we bought. My hubby and I have both used it and the first time I used it I had never paper pieced before and she made it so easy that I got hooked on this piecing method. She tells you how to precut fabric so you do not waste fabric. She gives very detailed information and instructions, I think a beginner quilter with "just the basic" knowledge of quilting could use Carols method. The pictures a very well done also.

The book contains very clear paper piecing instructions and beautfil blocks. I love to sit and look at the book as well as make the blocks into quilts.

The patterns and information in this book are easy to follow. Since these blocks are made up of only 4 "quadrants", the teens in my 4-H sewing club were successful and enthusiastic about trying this "new" quilting method. It makes it a great book for those of us new to paper piecing!

I bought this book because of the variety of blocks. The patterns are easy to follow and the finished blocks come out really nice. this is really a good book to start learning with on up to advancing blocks.

I have been curious for several years about the paper piecing method of quilt block construction. One of the local quilt shops had a class on this method in June, so I signed up. I found a more reasonably priced book (which was required for the class) on Amazon.com, so I ordered it, hoping it would come in time for the class. It arrived in 2 days in mint condition! Between the instructor's comments, and the book right in front of me, I was able to understand what to do. I was even able to assist 2 other women in the class! For paper piecing, you have to think about fabric placement in a completely different way, but once you do a couple of blocks, it is fun! You can construct intricate patterns that would be close to impossible the traditional way. And, don't be afraid of "do-overs" while you are learning the technique!

Beautiful designs, can't wait to try them out. anything by Carol Doak is cool and easy to follow.

The best word for this book is "WOW"!! I thought Carol's last book ("50 Paper-Pieced Stars") was terrific, but this one tops it. Carol has really outdone herself on this one & her use of color is sensational. I've already found two quilts I *have* to make! If you like paper-piecing, don't wait another second to get this book & dig in, because Carol makes it very easy & the designs in the book are stunning - wait 'til you see the way she moves color around & how easy these blocks are to make with her methods.
