Dietrich Bonhoeffer fans will love this book! Those who want to practice journaling or strengthen their devotional life will also find this book to be a strong motivational tool. [I continually looked forward to the next reading.]

Each day starts with a portion of Bonhoeffer's writing; followed by an appropriate scripture portion, psalm segment, thought-provoking questions and brief prayer. While intended for personal use, I can see it being used successfully by a small group via email or face-to-face sharing their responses to the questions. Individual segments would also be appropriate for group devotions.Suitable for Lent or any other season of the year.

Each day covers two pages in the book. There is a commentary by Bonhoeffer, Bible passage, questions to ponder, Psalm reading, journal questions and the prayer suggestions.

Throughout some of the days, there are themes, such as the beatitudes or the meaning of grace.

I enjoy this study guide. It is a good way to start your day. I'd allocate about 15 minutes per day.

Bonhoffer is not a quick read. 40 DAY JOURNEY offers small nuggets to ponder each day, coupled with Scripture and meaningful questions. This nourishment for both heart and mind has changed my life.

I'm almost finished with this 40-day journey (that I started about 75 days ago), and there have been about 7-10 excerpts that have been mind-blowing - they've challenged and changed me in the best way. There have also been a few that leave me wanting a bit, or are similar to the previous days, but I view it as a challenge to dig deeper into my own heart and really get the full aspect of what Bonhoeffer is saying. The way it's laid out, with room for meditation, intercession, scripture reading, etc, is just perfect. I've been looking for a devotional like this one for awhile!

This devotional written by a young man, in his thirties, challenges one to a personal invitation and then response to the Jesus Christ of the Bible. No hiding behind your "religion". He gave up much, and died a German protestant in a concentration camp because he would not just go with the company line.
I challenge you to read thru this 40 day adventure.

Annointed reading written by a fine man of God who gave his life for preaching the gospel. Very thought provoking
