4.0 out of 5 stars Good album with some momentary lapses
This is Xzibit's follow-up to his debut album, "At The Speed Of Life." On this album, Xzibit displays growth as an overall MC, his lyrics and raw flow both being improved.

3.0 out of 5 stars What U See Is What U Get
Xzibit in my opinion is the illest MC from the West Coast. If you truly into lyrics and a true hip-hop head than this CD is for you. What You See is What You Get is the bomb. Xzibit keeps it real thru the whole album. On "Focus" X to the Z displays his lyrical skills and diversity. This album is tight lyrically but the tracks wasnt bangin, the production...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album with some momentary lapses, May 3, 2000

This is Xzibit's follow-up to his debut album, "At The Speed Of Life." On this album, Xzibit displays growth as an overall MC, his lyrics and raw flow both being improved.
"What U See Is What U Get" is just raw, easily the best track on the album. "3 Card Molly," featuring Rass Kass and Saafir, is an entertaining track showcasing the trio's lyrical skills. And "Los Angeles Times" is another nice track with a great bassline. Other bangin tracks include "Focus," "Deeper," and "Inside Job."
Where the album falters is in some of the production. Although the tracks listed above are all well-crafted, others on this album are not. Case in point--"Nobody Sound Like Me," the perfect example of what you get when you cross a lame beat with an un-interesting hook. "Shroomz" features some funny lyrics over an all-out WACK beat, making it very hard to listen to.
Fortunately (at least HOPEFULLY), this problem will not exist on X to the Z's forthcoming album, which will feature mostly Dr. Dre behind the boards. But still, even with a few wack beats, this is still a recommended album. If you're a fan of West Coast hip-hop, you should have "40 Dayz & 40 Nightz" in your collection.

Xzibit keeps it real thru the whole album. On "Focus" X to the Z displays his lyrical skills and diversity. This album is tight lyrically but the tracks wasnt bangin, the production could've been better. Its a good CD but not as good as his first one "To The Speed of Life." - that one was bomb - a hip-hop classic in my estimation.

Why aren't this guy's albums selling by the millions? I heard him on "B Please" on the last Snoop CD and I went out and bought both of Xzibit's albums. This man has a tight voice, flow, and much of the time his lyrics are great. While I felt this CD grows a little weaker once you get towards some of the middle and last tracks it's still a classic. The song with Meth and Jayo was a bit of a let down for me, but other than that this album has some great tracks. If you hear this album and you like it, pick up AT THE SPEED OF LIFE. That one is even better. I'm just hoping Xzibit will get the props he deserves when he drops his new album that's produced by DRE.

In the middle of the West Coast saturday reviews but I will do all 5 Xzibit albums."Chamber Music" is absolutely sick and is very nice."3 Card Molly" is some how actually better and has a perfect beat to it and when you get Saafir and Ras Kass you have a classic song."What you see is what you get" was one of the best video's if not the best of 1998 and is also a great single."Handle your bussiness" also has a great beat to it and he kills this one to."Nobody Sounds like me" has a experimental beat(I love experimental beats) I wish the had beats like this on his new albums."P**** Pop" is that Method Man."Shroomz" messes up the album with a bad beat and bad lyrics."Focus" gets back on focus with a nice beat and nice lyrics."Deeper" has a beat that sounds like it was made underground and is experimental."Los Angeles Times" is obviosly a look at LA up close."Let it Rain" has a sick beat and hot rhymes to go with it."Recycled Assasins" has a great beat to it.I really do not know anything about Thayoud Auser or Jesse West but they did a great job.If Xzibit would of actaully had fun on here it would have been even better. He used energy but not excitement.

Lyrics 9.5 Production 10 X Factor 7 Classic 9 Replay 9

This was a hard one to score but it was worth a solid 4 1/2

unlike most xzibit fans who like his earlier album "at the speed of life" i have to say this album is pure genius. This album was also made before x became dr dres bitch. The beats on this album are at a seperate level than any garbage you will here today. Besides the beats the lyrics are pure fire on tracks like "3 Card Molly", "What you see is what you get", "Handle your Business", and "Let it Rain". The CD has some great guests on it like Ras Kass, Saafir, J-Ro, Tash, King T, Method Man, and Jayo Felony. I recomend this for any one who is a fan of rap and a fan of music, or some one who loves music from the streets. If you are into tear da club up music like j-kwon or lil jon dont buy this, because this is quality music

5.0 out of 5 stars 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz, September 12, 2002
This review is from: 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz (Audio CD)
Nineteen-ninety-eight proves to be a strong year for west coast hip-hop. Xzibit wastes little time returning to the rap scene with the follow-up to his 1996 debut At The Speed Of Life [ECD], which bore well-received singles "Paparazzi" and "Foundation." Amazingly, the aggressive-rapping artist managed to compose an album that outshines his impressive freshman release.

40 Dayz & 40 Nightz is a solid effort from beginning to end. Perfect tracks include the immediate certified classic "3 Card Molly," repetitive keys and pounding bass boomer "Focus," piercing violins and drum-styled synthesizer orchestration "Deeper," and signature plucked-guitar posse cut "Let It Rain" featuring other Likwit crew members Tha Alkaholiks and King Tee.

Xzibit separates himself from many of his peers with freestyle flair by also making sure to incorporate motivating subject matter. Along those lines, you'll find "Handle Your Business," "Focus," "Deeper" and "Outro," which includes proud closing words from his father.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anotha banga dropped by X to da Z!, February 15, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz (Audio CD)
Xzibit is one the strongest names on the west coast righ now, and I'm glad he's getting his props, selling millions of his 3rd LP "Restless" which is very good too, altough sounds a bit commercial but still it's a great cd.

'Bout "40 dayz & 40 nightz" what can I say? Well at that time he was an underground kat with a lotta killz and rollin' with da Likwit Crew. The production here is tight, you can listen mad beats, the best tracks are "Card Molly", "Pu**y Pop", "Los Angeles Times" and "Let It Rain". As a matter of fact those r the standout tracks 'cause I only didn't feel "Shroomz"...the beat is wack, Xzibit's flow is kinda tired..he seems tired...very strange.

Xzibit is that kind of artist that is always bringing consistent music...I own his 3 albuns and none of them is garbage...He's one of the most consistent mc's in the game right now...He's always spit with passion&fury, I like his flow, his style. But if I have to choose what album is his best, I'll stick with "40 dayz" no doubt..."At the speed of life" is great, but this album is a banga even with "Shroomz" that was a lil misstep...No doubt it deserves 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars X to tha Z's encore to "at the speed of life", September 12, 2005
This review is from: 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz (Audio CD)
As one reviewer put it, this a toss up with the "Restless" album as his best with #2 At the speed...#3 Man vs. Machine #4 Weapons of Mass Destruction(In my opinion his, not worst 'cause X is a stellar MC,but least favorite..too commercial for my taste), anyways bout the album: D to tha O to tha P to tha E, DOPE, pick this one up fa' sho, pussy pop, 3 card molly, what you see..., and chamber music being reasons why...Also look out for any Strong Arm Steady material comin out with Phil Tha Agony, Krondon, and SD619'S OWN Mitchy Slick
