about those comments between the songs...,

Great songs if you're into such dramatic stuff --- and her voice was truly unique and beautiful. The comments between each song, and often overlapping the beginning of a song are sure to irritate quite a few people, though. I have a couple of cd's that do this --- and it drives me nuts. Interesting once, sure, but after that --- argh!

A French pop-music classic,
This review is from: 40 Success En Or (Audio CD)
Dalida is the princess of gawd, the queen of kitsch, and the empress of camp! I just love her! She is one of the best representatives of the French pop-music tradition in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Her first songs are romantic, albeit corny, melodies with a nice mediterranean or big band background. You can just imagine her on a black and white TV screen, with too much make-up on, acting out the words of her song, with a look of amourous longing on her face. Then the sixties, when almost all her songs are translations of English hits from the same period. But for me, it is the hits of the 70s which really get me singing and dancing. I remember listening to them on the radio when I was a kid, and they bring back so many memories. The beat is fun, a bit disco-ish, and the words to the songs are sometimes as funny as they are sad. Looking back now, and knowing that Dalida eventually committed suicide because she felt under-loved and under-appreciated, the words from some songs seems to take on a different meaning. Although not all her songs are as magnificiant as Bambino, Parole Parole, or Gigi L'amoroso, the collection is quite a pleasure to listen to, especially if you can understand the texts. I would recommend this to any fan of French-pop music.

Truly 40 Greatest songs!,
By A Customer
This review is from: 40 Success En Or (Audio CD)
This double CD indeed includes 40 of Dalida's Golden, most essential and popular songs in her career. What makes this album special and unique are the various remarks the artist herself made during interviews which are heard at the end of each track. This quite helps you and of course new listeners know something more about the artist's life and recordings. Simply a great package for Dalida Fans.

Dalida has that little something special which belongs to the greatest ,touching you deep in your soul.If you consider that in 1963 she sold more records than the King Elvis Preslay or Paul Anka, that puts the pyramids at the right place.

Dalida is one of my most popular French artists. She performed numerous times for Princess Grace in the royal palace in Monaco. Her shows always featured elaborate costuming, and her dancing was perfect. This album tells her complete career. There are no more like her in the world, she was one of a kind.from ALTEREGO in Tulsa Oklahoma
