Just like the "real" dream world, players can transform into different characters with special traits. Need stealth? Assume the role of a sneaky ninja warrior. Feeling super? Battle the baddies as a powerful action hero. Successfully negotiating the levels requires skilled jumping, swimming, butt bouncing (better seen than explained), and more. It's not just another action-adventure--it's the game of your dreams!

Like Mario 64 or Spyro, just harder to control,

My boyfriend (27) and I are playing this game right now. Graphics are great, gameplay is easy to understand and the storyline is cute. We're enjoying it immensly. My only comment to would-be buyers for small children is that it is a little difficult to control - especially in the swimming levels. For some reason, the controls are reversed when swimming, and it is extremely hard to navigate and pick up objects. This is particularly annoying when being pursued by a large shark. Also, you have to press 2 separate buttons at separate times to butt-bounce (their words, not mine.) This is just unnecessary. Experienced gamers will probably have less trouble with the controls, but younger kids and occasional gamers (like we are) may get a little frustrated. Amazon recommends this for ages 5-20, other recommendations say 7-12. 40 Winks is definitely enjoyable for adults who still enjoy cartoons and child-like fantasy. All in all, it's very much like a Mario 64 or Spyro. The controls are definitely more difficult in 40 Winks than these two top-rated games, but if you like this genre, it's worth getting.

Fun for kids,

This game is enjoyable, somewhat along the lines of Spyro the Dragon, or Crash Bandicoot. The storyline is deceptively childlike, masking certain comic mayhem which will amuse adults. You can play as a little girl or boy. I recommend the girl. Her teddy bear "weapon" seems to pack a better wallop than her brother's silly candle! The storyline concerns a grumpy old mad scientist who has destroyed all but forty "winks" in the world--those little pokeman-like critters who bring good dreams to people. Your mission is to free the remaining forty winks, who are kidnapped and caged around the game's 18 clever levels. The gameplay is fairly straightforward, with no "puzzle" rounds to rack your brain over. However, the obvious simplicity of this makes for poor replay--once you've seen it, you've seen it.There are no power-ups per se, but you have ample opportunities to don an assortment of costumes (think Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko), all of which are extremely powerful and fun to use. Reviewer's Hint: If you are looking for pink keys in the Space level, and you should find yourself on a conveyor belt carrying rocks, look up!

40 winks,
By A Customer

40 winks is a great game for all ages. Though it's rated E and has kindof a "For Kids" kinda style it is great fun for anybody. Weather your a young kid of 6 or 7, or a teen of 13 or 14, this is a great game.NiteKap, the villian of the game, can't sleep. He decides that if he can't than why should any body else. So he sends his henchman, threadbear, to capture the Winks(Little creatures that protect us when we sleep and give us good dreams). He sends the Hood-Winks(Little green nightmarish winks that give us nightmares) to make sure that no when can sleep. Now here is where you come in, all the winks have been turned into evil hood-winks. However 40 of them still remain....And you must save them. How?....by entering your dreams(wich have been turned into nightmares). You can chose to be rough or tumble. There are plenty dream worlds in the game. From castle dreams to dinosaur dreams to underwater dreams and ofcourse the classic nightmare, complete with ghosts were wolfs and spiders. In each world there are 3 or 4 levels. You must go into each level and find the winks. You must also collect dream keys for the dream clock. Once you have all 12 dream keys for a world you can battle threadbear and his companion for the world. There is also a racing level in each world. If you beat your opponent you keep any itmes you collected in that race. If you lose than you just don't get to keep the items you found. You also can find jack-in-the-boxes which allow you to turn into dream charecters like nijas or cavemen or fairies, each with there own abilities. As a charecter you must collect charecter tokens to stay as that charecter. Though it can be chalenging it is very fun. If your looking for a none violent, fun game than get 40 winks. It's worth it.
