Lack of index makes it difficult to find the track you want.,

The effects are arranged hap hazardly on the four CD's. This makes it difficult to locate a track you want to use. An idex of headings and sub headings (such as "Animals - Horse - Horse whinney") would have been simple to include and make the set much more useful.

The list is awesome, but there was no mention before I purchased that ALL of the songs are copywrighted - yep, that's right... I don't know WHO would actually need 400 sounds for personal use, but I bought this to use in PROFESSIONAL projects, so it was a BIG dissapointment.

I have been searching for sound effects of this variety. This is a good set compared to others in the same price range. I was surprised by the crispness of the effects.

400 SOUND EFFECTS contains precisely that on four CDs. The effects range from Fire Alarm Bell to Jet Take Off to Slot Machine to Thunder Clap. Many of these have elaborations, with Telephone as an example: Phone Pick Up, Phone with three rings and Pick Up, Phone with one ring and Pick Up, and so on. The sound quality is quite good, and while not all samples are pristine none are so muddy as to be useless. Overall, the collection is worth the purchase to anyone building a sound effects library.
The packaging, directory, and organization of the collection does, however, leave something to be desired. The packaging is flimsy pasteboard, and I recommend you move the CDs to individual jewel covers. The directory is in extremely fine print; you'll need a magnifying glass to decipher it. As for organization--although there is some effort to group similar items, it isn't consistent, so you may have some trouble finding a particular effect, or indeed even knowing if the collection includes it. I liked the price and quality, and you get what you pay for and this is good. I also like the that there were so many to chose to listen on the cd, 400!!!-RILEY
