My original HP adapter lasted about 2 years before beginning to fail intermittantly and then finally gave out. It's a bad design. The cause was a broken connector at the strain relief near where it plugs into the computer. I bet that's what happened to yours right? Or something pretty similar. That's why you are considering buying this knock-off part as a replacement. The price is way cheaper than the brand-name part, so I know it's tempting, but don't buy this. I bought this part in April and it was only 2 months until the cord insulation completely separated from the outlet plug, exposing the wires underneath. 2 months later, the old intermittant power problem started again. Today, the plug that goes into the computer completely snapped in half!! Not at the strain relief, where you'd expect a break. No, the actual plug cylinder part broke. The metal snapped in half. Ridiculous. This product gives new meaning to poor quality. Almost comically cheap. Don't make the same mistake I did. Buy the HP part.

i bought this about a month ago, and it still charges my laptop...however, the adapter gets too hot and is now beginning to melt so there is no telling how much longer it will last. i should not have spent my money on this but my other adapter had stopped working completely...

I got this adapter for my HP Pavillion dv2000. It worked fine. It was also compatible with my friend's HP Pavillion dv6000.
The adapter has a HP logo on it. It looked exactly like my HP original. I found no difference in looks as well as its working too. No overheating problems. Way better than paying 100+ $ at HP website.
