1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!
This unit cost me $1,000 and I only got 6 months out of it. The unit completely stopped working...no picture, no sound, acts like no power is getting to it. When I called Westinghouse to ask what to do since it was still under warranty, they said fax in a proof of purchase and call us back. This unit cost me $1,000 and I only got 6 months out of it. The unit completely stopped working...no picture, no sound, acts like no power is getting to it. When I called Westinghouse to ask what to do since it was still under warranty, they said fax in a proof of purchase and call us back. It's been three weeks and I've faxed in my receipt twice and they still say they haven't received it. I'm told I can't ship the unit back (by the way, at my expense-$200 to do so) until they receive the proof of purchase. The last time I called the number was "temporarily out of service".

By the time I get any help, the warranty will probably be expired.

Do not buy a Westinghouse product...they are not quality products and their customer service is terrible!

Pros:

Audio is pretty good
Stylish
USB Memory stick input

Cons:
Needs some tweaking out of the box - but this is acceptable
Black levels are good but not as good as a plasma - a problem for all lcd tvs.

5.0 out of 5 stars 8 Months in: Great TV/DVD combo (VK-40F580D), July 1, 2009
This review is from: 40IN LCD 1080P HDTV W/DVD 1920X1080 W/ ATSC/NTSC (Electronics)
Well, it's been 8 months since I got my VK-40F580D for the master bedroom. After a careful picture calibration when first setting up the TV, it has had an excellent picture and performs great.

I bought this unit new at the local Sams Club for about $700ish. This has been the best electronics purchase I have made in a long time.

I will keep my fingers crossed that it keeps up the great work!

1.0 out of 5 stars Where do I start?, December 26, 2009
This review is from: 40IN LCD 1080P HDTV W/DVD 1920X1080 W/ ATSC/NTSC (Electronics)
Pros: None specific to this TV
Cons:
DVD Player: Constantly either freezes where it won't play or locks in play mode where any button you hit (menu, skip scene, etc) is ignored and the only way to fix it is to eject the disc and put it back in. Also has a tendency to refuse to eject the disc and the only way to fix it is to unplug the tv then plug it back in while holding down the power button on the tv itself. Annoying.
Picture: Has a large tendency to have the picture become "garbled" or collect lines, etc. at the top of the screen and the only way to fix it is to either turn the tv off and back on or to change the input device and change it back.
Support: The manual obviously was never proofread before product shipped. Page 1 the phone number to call for help is a digit short and I had to look it up online. When I finally did get someone I was told its a new product so they are still working "kinks" out.

1.0 out of 5 stars caution: do not buy a westinghouse tv!, May 29, 2009

when my first westinghouse flatscreen tv lost audio, it took over 9 weeks to get a replacement refurb unit. the new unit promptly lost the picture.

in the interim, the company has switched to a non-human farce of a "customer support" system. it's a telephone message that promises a response to email inquiries within 24 hours. well, i'm on 5 days and counting - no response to the web form, email or phone messages.

still waiting for that response from westinghouse, as well as for tv #3.

there are other brands out there, folks. don't go with westinghouse if you know what's good for you. it would be worth twice what i paid for the tv to have avoided dealing with westinghouse customer service, not to mention a whole series of non-functional televisions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent TV!!, February 24, 2009

This is an excellent TV for the money. HD picture is outstanding. Black levels are very good. Menu system easy to use and menus snap open and closed instantly. Has 2 HDMI ports plus other types. We use one for our Dish receiver and the other for our Blu-Ray. Adding a low cost HDMI switch is simply way to get more. Built in DVD works great and upscales SD DVDs. But our Blu-Ray disks look fantastic at 1080P. Remote is well organized. Has sub woofer connector but this set deserves a surround sound system. We see no reason to spend more for more expensive snob brands. Can't think of any negatives at all about this TV. Best purchase we have made in years!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 40IN LCD 1080P HDTV W/DVD 1920X1080 W/ ATSC/NTSC (Electronics)
Ordered this tv back in 11/08. Target stores had it on sale, Amazon had it for same price, but I used several credit card reward certificates. Shipped sooner than I thought. Great television, except I hope I don't have to send it back. After a few weeks, and increasing in frequency since, the remote stopped working. Apparently the eye that picks up the remote signal wasn't working - the DISH remote wouldn't work, either. One day it wouldn't, then the next day it would. Could still use the limited control buttons on the side of the set. Finally, I thought of unplugging the tv, and that seems to have cleared out whatever glitch was causing this. Found a setting that stops the power to the plug (?) when turned off. I hope that works, as Westinghouse has no service shops in Missouri, and it would cost about $135 to ship it back to factory for replacement. Seems to me that a warranty would include paid shipping for replacement. Amazon said they wouldn't pay for shipping, either.
