I received the Scrabble Collector's Tin today and, unfortunately, will be returning it tomorrow. The Collector's Tin is absolutley beautiful. This game comes in a turquoise tin which includes a deep blue velvet pouch for your tiles; scoring sheets tucked inside a handy blue binder which contains a blue pencil as well; heavy, golden tile racks; and wooden blue tiles engraved with gold letters all neatly lined up in a sturdy paper box. So, what's the problem? The board is highly disappointing and therein lies the fault of the Collector's Tin edition of Scrabble. It is a standard, folding game board with no raised grids to hold your tiles securely in place. For the price of $39.99, I was expecting a better quality board. I could have saved myself $10.00 by ordering the Deluxe Scrabble version instead.

WOW. That was the first word out of my mouth when I saw this game (27 points if played on a triple-word space.)
This is one beautiful edition of Scrabble . First you see the lovely "collector's tin." A blue tin box for storage. Next, opening the box, everything inside is protected. Foam sheets around the board, velveteen, sectioned/compartmented interior liner. Brass-looking, polished METAL racks, blue WOOD tiles with gold letters, in a beautiful wood storage box, with a protective, lined base. There's a fabric pouch (velour, I think) for mixing and choosing tiles during the game. Also included is a hard-bound score pad with a blue pencil. So, why does the game lose a star for durability? The game board. It's beautifully illustrated, but it's just paper on a cardboard board with some sort of fabric backing. If Hasbro were to include a higher quality board, this edition would be so much better. Other than this minor complaint, this edition is absolutely stunning. If you love Scrabble, this is one edition you want to consider purchasing. I did notice, though, that Amazon changes the price on it from time-to-time, so keep an eye out for the best pricing.
