If you are like me, a picky salsa aficionada, then you usually buy a CD that will get you off the couch and into the dancefloor the moment you hear it. Sonora Poncena sizzles in this CD. Buy it and dance all night long...every song in this CD is HOT!

This musical giant is celebrating its 45th anniversary and this cd includes almost all of the songs performed last February at San Juan, P.R. with most of its former lead singers( Luigi Texidor, Yolanda Rivera, etc.) plus special guest stars, salsa legends Andy Montanez, Cano Estremera and Ismael Miranda Only missing is Tito Gomez who sang that day but his record company did not grant approval for the inclusion of his tracks in this cd. For lovers of "Salsa Gorda" by the best musicians from Puerto Rico.

Great compilation of the song catalog and musical history of a legendary salsa band. La Sonora has a style all of its own that mixes the hard core salsa ("Salsa Gorda" in salsero vernacular) with Jazz without missing any of the flavor of the Caribbean. It is a live album but it is so beautifully recorded and the quality of the performers and their interaction with the public is so awsome that it only enhances the experience. This CD will make you dance and you will listen to it again and again and I am not saying this just because Im From Ponce too.

I am happy with the results from the product purchased, it was a gift for my friend and they are still thanking me.

El estilo de la Sonora Poncen~a es mas parecido al estilo tipico de son Cubano que la mayoria de orquestas de Puerto Rico. Y si eres fanatico de este sonido vas a estar super feliz escuchando esta grabacion. Todo les quedo perfecto, desde la calidad del sonido, la orquesta suena en buena forma, y traen invidatos que los complimentan muy bien como Andy Montan~ez y Cano Estremera.

Lo unico que no suena con este toque tradicional es el piano. Papo Lucca toca mas inteligentemente, mas sublime, que la mayoria de los pianistas salseros o soneros. Hay muchisimos solos de piano.

No le puedo dar cinco estrellas puramente por mis gustos. El sonido de la sonora, con solo trumpetas por metales y utilizando mucha campana fuerte nunca me ha motivado mucho, sea sonando tradicional como aqui, agresivo como sonora carruseles, o moderno como Charanga Habanera. Pero si vas a tener un solo album de Sonora Poncen~a, este es una buena seleccion.

Bellisimo del principio al final! WOW! Puedo escribir un libro sobre este album solamente pero haci lo dejo,WOW!

Oh my lord thank-you once again for giving us music to enjoy and dance. Papo and Quique Lucca along with La Sonora Ponceña has smashed Salsa scene once again in the format of Salsa Gorda and Clave with this astonishing production. Hands-down this is the best of 2000 and beyond. Competitors standby...La Ponceña...is taking center stage now. After Tito Puente's Birdland Live recording...now La Ponceña is on the spanking side of Salsa. It's really a shame that they are not in with the click in the Miami Mafia of Latin music. If you want to hear good Cuban music well step-back and think about it for a minute because La Sonora Ponceña 45th Anniversary Live is way much better in all respects. I love real cuban music but La Sonora Ponceña from Ponce Puerto Rico RULES. There's just no doubt about it. I don't say these things unless I truly mean it.
