About the Artist

Formed in 1985, Caifanes quickly made the jump from playing clandestine underground rock clubs to the big stages of Mexico, U.S. and Latin America. In 1996 the band changed its name to Jaguares due to a legal dispute. In 1987, the first album from the group sold near 80 thousand copies without having any radio hits or promotional campaign. This accomplishment had an impact on the Mexican music industry because it showed a truth that thousands of children already knew: rock fans had a voice through Caifanes songs.

Jaguares / Caifanes have released 10 albums and collaborated and/ or toured with many artists, including Morrisey, Stuart Copeland, Adrian Belew, Don Was, The Rolling Stones, David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Mark Isham, Billy Preston, Flaco Jiménez, Tigres del Norte, Juan Gabriel, La Internacional Sonora Santanera, Peter Gabriel, Live, Estopa, Red Hot Chili Peppers, among many others. In 1997, Hernández even teamed up with legendary Algerian rai singer Cheb Khaled to record the bilingual Spanish-Arabic duet "Ki Kounti."

As a songwriter, Hernández speaks across generations with songs that, whether they become radio hits or not, still take hold as part of the essential soundtracks to the lives of many, in Mexico and all over the world. Jaguares have found poetry in darkness, strength in musical mystery, and modern innovation in Mexican tradition. Jaguares' music when performed live is far more than a concert--it's a communal ritual between thousands of singing strangers. Espanol: Formado en 1985, Caifanes rápidamente el salto de juego clandestino de rock underground de los clubes de las grandes etapas de Mexico, EE.UU. y América Latina. En 1996 la banda cambió su nombre por el de Jaguares debido a una controversia jurídica. En 1987, el primer álbum del grupo vendió cerca de 80 mil copias sin tener ningún éxitos de radio o campaña de promoción. Este logro tiene un impacto en la industria de la música mexicana, ya que puso de manifiesto una verdad que miles de niños ya sabíamos: rock fans había una voz a través de canciones de Caifanes.

"45" was produced by Saul Hernández (Vocals, Guitar, Songwriter) and Alfonso André (Drums), with the collaboration of Howard Willing. Jaguares' current line-up also includes, César "Vampiro "López (guitar) and Marco Rentería (Bass) . And as a special guest in the album, Diego Herrera (keyboards). Recorded in Los Angeles and Mexico in June, and mixed in Nashville by Dave Thoener, `45' presents 10 songs that will surprise all of those who think they know what to expect from Jaguares.

Jaguares' approach on this 2009 Grammy award winning effort centers around a no-nonsense analog sensibility and a raw-edged free-spirit. The rock numbers "Alquimista,""Lobo," and "Atraves de la pared" really rock employing classic drum patterns to drive guitar-heaviness and thick bass accompaniment in neo-psych and alt-rock glory. Other tunes like "Viajando en el mundo," "Si fuera necesario," and "Y volvi para creer" exude a prog-rock ethos via complex rhythms and tempos, spacey interludes, and trippy guitar. The sweet "Pintame" and scathing "Un mal sueño" exemplify Saul Hernández's songwriting ability with lyrical poignancy and perfectly mood-illustrating melodies. Add two hard-driving, catchy singles, "Entre tus jardines," and "Visible" and this CD approaches something more of a masterpiece than anything else.

This is a good album, my choice are 8 out of the 10 songs.. Alfonso does an outstanding job on his kit.
The sound of Diego is refreshing from past albums.
And most of all what I love about this album is the meaning of "45"


Este es un buen álbum, mi opción 8 de las 10 canciones son fantasticas. Alfonso hace un trabajo excepcional en su kit. El sonido de Diego es refrescando comparado a lo últimos álbumes. Y sobre todo lo qué amo sobre este álbum es el significado de "45"
