4.0 out of 5 stars If you find a song or two you want, buy it., May 5, 2000
This review is from: 45's On CD, Vol. 4 (1967-1969) (Audio CD)
These discs (the whole '45's of CD collection) feature songs that are pretty obscure. For that reason this collection is worthwhile. I have been critical of other discs of this title for being rather stingy with the number of cuts, but I guess that for the six dollar price, it is not too bad.

The value comes in finding a song you seek (or two or three). That is an easy task here. "Na-na, Hey hey" is positively ubiquitous, but "Love is All Around" certainly is not. As of yet, Amazon.com does not sell "Keith's Greatest Hit" for the few folks out there who might want "98.6". "Love Is Blue" and "Sunday Will Never Be the Same" are available elsewhere, but at least here I think the value may be better (I have P. Mauriat's Greatest Hits and the rest of it is weak).

Happily, these are all original versions, and the sound quality is fine. All four of the volumes of '45's on CD might be a great discount value. Still, worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For Converters!!, February 15, 2001

I started 2 1/2 years ago converting my collection of over 200 LPs and over 900 45s to Compact Disc. I've done a lot of picking and choosing, and then I found 45s on CD. What a find! I was able to convert 10 of my 45s at once at one low price! This is a great series of compilation CDs for the serious music collector. Don't let these pass you by.

The CD being sold here is an edited version of a CD that Mercury released some years ago called "45's on CD" Vol. 3. (It bears no resemblance at all to the disc in the current series called number three.) With the exception of "Love is Blue," all of the songs here are on that longer CD. It's worth seeking out if you're missing these songs, which don't appear on this shorter CD:

"Reach Out in the Darkness" by Friend and Lover;
"Summertime Blues" by Blue Cheer;
"Warm San Franciscan Nights" by the Animals;
"Fire" by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, and
"I Will Always Think About You" by New Colony Six.

The "old" cover shows a Mercury 45 (the New Colony Six song, in fact) morphing into a CD.

So hit the "used" piles at your local store and see if you get lucky, like I did.
