Book Description

From the reporter who broke the Romney video story, 47 Percent reveals for the first time the dramatic tale of how David Corn, Washington Bureau chief at Mother Jones, MSNBC analyst and author of the New York Times bestseller Showdown, learned of its existence, located the source, authenticated the video, and persuaded the source to let him release it. In 47 Percent, Corn recounts how the 47 percent video fit into the ongoing narrative of the 2012 election and greatly changed the course of the campaign. This instant, on-the-news book also features an astute review of the first debate between President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney and assesses the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate as they head into the final stretch of this historical election.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick read to go deeper into important story October 20, 2012

This .99 cent Kindle special is a quick read and worth more than the low cost. Even though I've heard some of it on the news, there is more detail here about securing the video and the reaction to it. Romney basically said that 47% of the American people are immature dependents and can't take care of themselves. The 47% he dismissed so arrogantly include retired people, our military overseas and on disability, the working poor who don't make enough to pay income tax. As David Corn says, "Romney was bluntly expressing his belief that Americans who don't earn enough money to pay taxes and those who rely on Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps...are lesser people than he...It was an elitist slur spoken with full detachment."

3.0 out of 5 stars Good and detailed account October 9, 2012

A nice, quick read discussing the factual details around the posting of Romney's "47 percent" fundraiser video. The immediate post- 1st-debate reactions are also included. However, if you've been following the campaign closely, you know much of the stuff mentioned. Overall, a well-spent couple of hours for political junkies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great history of the 47% comment October 23, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I downloaded this book and read it in a evening. It is a history of how the video of Mitt Romney talking about how 47% of the population see themselves as victims. I found the writing of this book very engaging and it kept my interest. You could really feel the author worrying that he would get scooped by another news company for the story of this video. Overall this is a good book that gives you the history of the video, only in the very last line does the author really give his opinion about the video and to me that last line was perfect.

If you are into politics, buy this book! It should be a lesson to any future wannabe politicians no matter what office that they seek... today is a youtube world, one bad comment and you could be done as a candidate.
