When I was little, my mother always kept a bottle of 4711 on her dresser. I remember many a summer day helping myself to a splash of the cooling fragrance; it instantly elevated my mood and made me forget the heat. I hadn't thought about it in years until I saw it here on Amazon and ordered a bottle for old times sake. It's as wonderful as I remembered, pleasant and light and so refreshing on a hot summer day.

That's because it first was made in Cologne, Germany. Napoleon loved it. It is a great unisex after bath or bath-less splash, wonderfully citrusy and reminiscent of Calvin Klein's CQ. A great staple in Europe. They also make soap, deodorant, portable wet packs, etc. Used it all my life -- wonderful stuff but very hard to find in department stores. The provider in this case was efficient and even w/shipping provided a less-than-average cost and prompt and efficient service. Hats off to Amazon for carrying 4711. I had no idea they would carry it when I started looking.

This splash is great, however, after you get a lift from its citrusy fragrance and an all over clean and worldly feeling, it doesn't last which is my only complaint. I use another splash called Royal Ambree by Legrain (from Spain) and it does last so that's how I made the comparison. It stays on my clothes and layers well with other scents if I get creative.

If you've never tried it before, you won't be sorry, it's excellent but disappointing as to its strength and length of time you can enjoy it, hence the four stars.

If you're into a body splash that has an excellent aroma and you enjoy the lightness of its character, this is for you.

Having used 4711 for longer than I can remember, I can heartily recommend it for an after shave or skin tonic on a hot summer day. Its fragrance is pleasant and fading, never overpowering. It won't make you smell like a girly man, unlike most of the disgusting modern colognes. It can, and is, used by women too who don't wish to smell like French....
As it can be difficult to track down, it was very nice to be able to find it on Amazon at such a great price.

This is a great product, with a clean/fresh scent which is very summery and refreshing. I think keeping it in the fridge only enhances the enjoyment of this delightful aroma. It is what it is, but I do wish it would last a bit longer. Of course, resplashing is always very refreshing.

My product arrived early, and in perfect condition. Overall I must say I am pleased.
