Purchased some years ago, been looking for it ever since. Thrilled to locate it again.

The scent is very distinct and more 'derived from nature' than other fragrances. You could probably call it "earthy". They seem to have changed the formula to increase the duration- to make it last longer- but I haven't noticed anything negative about this.

Not like I care about this one way or the other- my only concern was the liquid inside- but the label could be done better. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me, but the label I recall from years ago was a heavy paper stock with matte finish and the gold "medallions" were embossed. This label is cheaper, tackier. Looks like something you'd find in a truck stop convenience store, which is kind of unfortunate as this is a very classy product.

It truly is gender neutral. A lot of colognes/scents are advertised as unisex, but almost always they trend towards one side or another... a bit too flowery and feminine, or a bit too leathery and manly. 4711 absolutely, positively is a neutral scent. Man or woman, it's fine (I'm a man, I wear it)

Definitely don't buy this until you've smelled it first- the scent isn't for everyone- but if you already know what this is and like it, then nothing else will do.

4711 Cologne is an excellent product - I've been using it for 30 years as an after shower splash, after shave and all-around refresher. No lingering perfumy smell.

4711 is arguably the "original" cologne, with the exception of Farina, produced in Cologne, Germany for over 100 years. It has a light citrus scent with lavender and herbal notes. It is extremely light, unlike more modern fragrances. It does linger when you wear it, fading to a barely perceptible note on the skin, making it almost impossible to over apply. Because of the light, predominantly citrus profile, it is both suitable for men and women. It is not cloying at all. It has been one of my summertime favorites for years. For the price, it is an exceptional value.

I've used this in the morning after shaving for thirty or so years. Top Drawer.

My Mother in Law got me a bottle of this for Christmas, and I loved it. In fact I ordered the large bottle because I used it so fast. A very nice light fragrance. I love the fact that you still smell it later in the day.

4711? It is the house number it was created in. It was in Germany, made by Johann Maria Farina, an Italian man, the name eau de cologne? He came up with that part of the name because of the new city he was living in... Cologne Germany!
In the beginning it was more than just a body fragrance, it was actually taken internally as a cure all! Migraines, Plague etc. it will fix what ails you! Understand, it has a high alcohol content I have read that the amount of Alcohol is or was anywhere from 10 to 80 proof, and that I suppose could make the plague a little easier to deal with?
If anything, 289 years and people are still loving it, That has to say something!
I never tasted it, nor would I recommend it! As a matter of fact, I will go as far as saying DON'T TRY DRINKING IT! MAY CAUSE DEATH?
All statements above are just things I have read about this stuff over the years!
The only thing I can say for sure is that is an awesome timeless scent that is truly unisex! Men will smell manly and woman will smell beautiful! It is by far the best thing you never smelled... 289 years old and you are just finding it now!
Not strong as in over powering just fresh! You have nothing to lose, I am shocked it is so cheap here! I bought it at Disney in PARIS (EPCOT) not the real Paris, and paid a ton more and it smells the same! Bottle label is not as nice but I am not wearing the bottle so I don't care!
BUY SOME NOW! I promise you will love it, if not, you can give it to me as a gift! I will be thankful!

This 4711 has been my favorite since finding it when I was stationed in Germany in the early 1960's. I am getting Another 27 oz. bottle again.

I discovered 4711 in S.E. Asia while I was doing government work during the Viet Nam era in the 1960's. No other Cologne can compare to the clean fresh scent of 4711 after a bath. Nothing........

That said, I've used 4711 for over 40+ years and need no other "smell good" to keep me happy!

I am John's wife and have been using 4711 for 30 years. It is my favorite scent of all time - light, fresh, citrusy, with a very slight hint of floral. Reminds me of a "just out of the shower" scent. Doesn't last tremendously long, but ..... it's still worth it. I've gotten the soap too, hoping that along with the cologne would cling longer. The jury's still out.

Germany has it in all shapes and quantities but I could not carry it back to States. Apparently, some people use it instead of water... A friend reminded me it is her favorite scent and she enjoyed it as a a gift. It is great we can buy it in such quantity in the States.
