5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, no problems
I have not had an issue unlike the other reviewers here. At the time of this writing, my GE bulb has been used in a floor lamp for about three and a half months. It goes on almost every night. 1.0 out of 5 stars Don't believe any of the hype.
I have a lamp where I use a 150 watt bulb. I know that's a lot, but the lamp is built for it and I need a lot of light there. I didn't realize they made a T4 bulb with a 150 Watt equivalent. When I read the bullets, especially "Guaranteed to last 8 years based on 4 hours use per day at 120V" I thought, why not try it. My 150 bulbs usually only last a few months. This...

The bulb has been great for me since it allows me to add a lot more light to the room while using much less power than an incandescent 100 W bulb. Please be aware that it's quite a bit larger and more than an inch taller than a regular CFL bulb.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bright Idea Would Be For GE To Improve The Printed Packaging., October 26, 2011
This review is from: GE 47452 42 Watt (150 Watt equivalent) Energy Smart Soft White Spiral T4 Light Bulb (Tools & Home Improvement)
Oct 2011. The package says to install base up - but it wasn't easy to find that important information.

My comment to GE Electric is that there is important information mixed in with all the verbiage along the edges of the product package (the colorful sheet inserted into the plastic molded package). It is an expensive light bulb so please work more on the package information. I didn't see a visual aid to show how to install the bulb.

I own at least 7 of these in service now, 6 are sideways for about a year before I noticed that was "wrong".

Nice bright bulb. :)

i was looking for a bulb that would deliver big lumens in a new shop. The reason i went this way was to get the lighting density up and more foot candles at work height. The lamps delivered. The color temp could have been higher and if offered in 5000 kelvin, I would have picked those. That aside , good price, prompt delivery and a satisfied customer.

This could be cool. So I ordered one. Just to see. I saw. It lasted 8 days. And I seldom had it on more than four hours a day.

Don't waste your money. It's too bad too, because it really did seem the equivalent of a 150 Watt bulb.

This is 2-3 times the size of the 100w model and thus will not fit in a normal lamp or many ceiling/wall fixtures.
Wish I'd known.

1.0 out of 5 stars CFB over 100 watts do not work, December 23, 2011
By
This review is from: GE 47452 42 Watt (150 Watt equivalent) Energy Smart Soft White Spiral T4 Light Bulb (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've noticed that any of these CF bulbs with an equivalent output of over 100 watts fail consistently after a very short amount of time. I've tried 200 watt as well as 150 watt. They ALWAYS fail after only a few days at most. Just today, I had a 150 watt bulb fail after only a couple of minutes. I've wondered if perhaps it's because these bulbs are much heavier than the bulbs for which the lamps were designed for. In any case I plan to stockpile the incandescents in this output range until the design of the CFBs improves.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bulb burns out after just a few hours of use, August 19, 2009

This review is from: GE 47452 42 Watt (150 Watt equivalent) Energy Smart Soft White Spiral T4 Light Bulb (Tools & Home Improvement)
It is unbelievable that GE would manufacture such a defective product. My GE "Energy Smart" 3-way bulb (50-100-150 equivalent) burned out after just a few hours of use. I learned that mine was not an isolated case--early failure is all too common with this bulb. Apparently this was a consequence of rush to manufacture to meet expected demand. GE should issue a mea culpa statement on this and issue a recall. They have seriously subverted a Green Movement initiative that could have greatly reduced our collective carbon emissions and saved millions of barrels of oil. SHAME ON GE!
