I recently bought four of these bulbs for my bathroom, to replace some others that had begun burning out. The good news is that these 11 watt bulbs are as bright, or even brighter, than the 14 watt bulbs (from a different manufacturer) that they replaced. The other good news is that there was little delay in achieving full brightness; snap on the switch and the bulbs light up the room, reaching full brightness in five to ten seconds. My previous bulbs used to light up at a fraction of their brightness and then take about 30 seconds to reach full intensity.

Having just received them, I can't comment on how long they will last, but if there turns out to be a problem in that department, I'll revise this review.

Now the best thing about these bulbs is the packaging. They come in that heavy, clear plastic packaging that is normally a real pain to open. Not these. The packages opened with minimal fuss and no need to resort to scissors or other tools, and no cut fingers.

I bought three of these to replace the globe-bulbs in my bathroom. I didn't want to have nasty looking spiral-style CFLs there since they are exposed along a mirror. These work great. They DO take some time to warm up to full strength; maybe a full minute or two. Although, since this is in a bathroom, it is actually a nice feature, so that the lights aren't blinding when you first turn them on.

They were well packaged and protected, and arrived in good time (not the fastest, but not the slowest).

4.0 out of 5 stars slow to start, February 4, 2010

I purchased just one of these globe CFL bulbs to test it on the strip above our bathroom sink. Once it gets started, it's a very good bulb - is as bright as and looks just like the other 6 incandescent globe bulbs. However, I'm thinking that I will always need at least one regular incandescent bulb in the strip for immediate light when we flick the switch. Although 10-15 seconds isn't a long time, it seems like it while waiting in the dark for a light to get bright enough to illuminate an area - especially a bathroom. I'm hoping that the manufacturers can delete the starting delay soon.

I don't know about all the technical aspect of this light bulb but I call it "the friendly vanity light". I was initially disappointed with the brightness. About a minute later I was very happy with it. After it heated up and came to full intensity it was slightly brighter then my other 4 vanity lights. When you wake up and walk into your bathroom and turn 5 of these on you won't be assaulted with eye searing brightness. It allows your eyes a bit of time to adjust to the brightness so you should be happy with it. I've only had it for a month so I can't speak to the longevity of this light bulb.

Hopefully people will read this, and heed the warning. At the following link what you will see is a person's foot, which was injured severely when he accidentely stepped on a couple of pieces of broken glass from one of these globes.

The globes as well as other energy saving bulbs contain Mercury, and there is a list of ten steps in the disposal and clean-up should one break. When you see what happened from those who were 'not' aware of the Mercury, it will make you think twice about the energy savers.
