5.0 out of 5 stars Color/Animal matching
We got this toy for our son at about age two because he knew his colors and animals and this was a game he could play with these skills. He doesn't SHARE very well yet, so he plays best with mom & dad, or alone with all four game boards to himself! There are coins in 4 colors with one of three animals on them. 1.0 out of 5 stars BINGO..... or DODO??
I guess it must be nice to be Fisher Price. To be such a toy industry juggernaut that you can put out a dud like this game and still expect people to buy your products religiously. Where to start... The game is a very, VERY simplified version of bingo. Instead of numbers, each player tries to complete his or her "card" by acquiring the three farm animals shown on it...

The child pulls a lever and the coin comes out - he matches the animal on the correct color game board. It is easy and fun. My son enjoys it VERY much and so have friends' children! Plus, it will help him learn to "take turns." Pretty soon, anyway!

Barn yard bingo is a great first toy! There are three different levels of play. The length of time it takes to complete the game is perfect for the two and three year old. It is a wonderful color matching game and is a good beginner game to teach rules of play. We have greatly enjoyed it.

I bought this game for my 2 year old son and have been very pleased. His occupational therapist introduced it to him to help him with his fine motor skills. It takes two hands to put the little coins in the slot (one to hold the coin and one to hold the barn) and a little strength to pull the lever to get the coins out. Even though he is too young to play the game, he loves to match the animals to the cards. It has been great to teach him the animal names and sounds, too. He loves to play and it will grow with his cognative abilities. We highly recommend this toy!

I have an almost 4 year old and a 2 1/2year old. We are able to play it together since it has several levels of play. With my youngest we just match color tokens to the right colored card. My oldest we match animals on the tokens to the correct animal on the card. They also are able to "play" themselves. They take turns and match up the colors. We have misplaced a token before but found it, had we not we could have called the company and received a re-placement. Thats nice to know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Barnyard Bingo has wonderful OT uses and is loads of fun too, December 10, 2003

I can't say enough good things about this game.

I have twins who started OT therapy at the age of 1 & 1/2. Their therapist used to come with this toy. They were both having issues with attending (sitting still that is) for extended periods of time, and fine skill motor issues.

The therapist utilized this toy (as you can do with any SIMPLE toy free of music and lights) the following ways. 1st things first, foundational learning. Start by matching (eg. you only take out the red and blue boards and the red and blue coins and use them to learn the colors and what matching was).. Worked in there is the understanding by you with your child of "your turn", now, "my turn". Once they get that, there are numerous learning values .. we moved on to: match now the animals, etc. Additionally, the eye and hand coordination alone is something which is worked on. My twins had a really hard time putting the coins in the hole and pulling down on the release button -- but that is a good thing. it challenged their coordination and worked on their motor skills. Once you have mastered those items above, they can move on to play "bingo" .. depending on your child's developmental level will determine the age they'll be able to play.

In addition to my twins, I have 3 other children. I know how easy it is to get caught up in buying all of the expensive, electronic gadgets that are out there - but they really are not necessary at this age. I had them all for my older children, and have since ditched them and gotten back to basics such as this, simple wooden blocks (e.g. bristle), anything mellisa and doug brand, simple board games.

Simplicity. Brain boosting and as little distraction as possible will do a load more for your child vs. the lights and musical stuff the kids won't want to touch in another week (if that).

I hope this helps!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My kids love this game, December 24, 1999

Barnyard Bingo is the one game that my kids (2and3) love to play over and over. It teaches pattern recognition and color identification. The mechanism by which the 12"chips" randomly come out keeps the kids attention. A lever is pressed and a "toingg" sound is made and out pops a chip that has either a chicken, a cow or a pig on one side. The object of the game is be the first to match the three animals on your little plastic card. The cards are made of very durable plastic. The only problem that I have had with this game is that my kids peel the animal stickers off or eat them. I have purchased this game three times just to keep up with the sticker cunsumption. I have decided to just buy animal stickers at a sticker store. With either homemade or store bought stickers you could expand the usefulness of the game to include different types of animals or letters. It truly is a wonderful game.

5.0 out of 5 stars EASY ENOUGH FOR A 2 AND A HALF YEAR OLD, December 19, 2002

THIS GAME WAS BOUGHT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO FOR MY ALMOST 3 YEAR OLD (WILL BE IN APRIL) DAUGHTER AND SHE LOVES THE GAME. ALL YOU DO IS MATCH THE ANIMALS TO THE COLOR CARD OR CARDS THAT YOU HAVE. VERY EASY. SHE ASKS TO PLAY BINGO ALL THE TIME BUT SHE DOES GET KIND BORED WITH IT QUICKLY. FOR BEGINNERS THOUGH I WOULD START OUT WITH ONLY ONE CARD. ANYWAYS WE USE THIS GAME FOR MATCHING COLORS AND ANIMAL RECOGNITION WHICH SHE ALREADY KNOWS. GOOD FOR TEACHING A YOUNG CHILD HOW TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS TOO. ALL IN ALL A GOOD TOY.

My son received this toy for his second birthday. He loves to match the round pieces to the corresponding fence by color AND animal. He loves to fill the barn and empty it. I love that all of the pieces are housed together in a small amount of space. The game rules are simple and fun.

My 4 year old has loved this game for the past year and a half or so. We have taken it everywhere and we now play a "speed" version of the game where we each take two game pieces. She loves this game so much after a dozen games I give up but she just loves it. This game is great for learning colors and animals. I also make her make the animal sounds which she thinks is just great. Good game Great price.

This is a great first game. It is very short in duration and teaches the basics of game playing (taking your turn, wining, following rules) without being overly involved or lengthy. The bingo chip dispenser is great fun for toddlers and makes the game very enticing. I highly recommend this game! However, I think that this game is probably more appropriate for 2-4 year olds than 3-6 year olds. I've played this with several 2 years olds and they've gotten the game immediately. This was some of the best 9 dollars that I've spent and will be giving this as a gift many times.
