4.0 out of 5 stars Lightman Reviews a Light Bulb

Hmm,

Well, why not (anything for a vote)...

This is a compact, line voltage PAR reflector lamp with a rating of 60 watts.

It works well in small track heads and other applications where bright, even beam dispersion from a compact package is desirable. The color temperature is just right at 2950 K.

3.0 out of 5 stars Distracting bulb
A light bulb is supposed to draw attention to what it is illuminating, not to itself. This bulb has a "bowed" glass front (you can see it in the photo) which focuses and shoots out a sharp beam of light in all directions, even at 90 degrees to its surface. I am using this to illuminate a painting over my fireplace, but keep getting distracted by the bright glow coming...

My general assessment is that line voltage halogen lamps such as this one can't be beat for quality of light. They do, however, produce a lot of heat and often underperform their usage rating.

Whether these environmental shortcomings outweigh the excellent light quality is a decision that you'll have to make for yourself.

Anyway, I just bought six more...

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior to other bulbs in this class, September 14, 2009

I needed nice bright, high K, even distribution flood lights for track lighting in a showroom. I researched and tested many different bulbs, including the very similar GE Reveal 60W halogen, and this Edison was without a doubt the best bulb tested. The 60W Reveal halogen was 2nd, but it was noticeably dimmer. Excellent color and distribution. As long as I can get these, I won't replace them with anything else.

Bought 5 of these to replace 5 of the same GE model as they burn out. Nice bright focused light. No complaints. Only comment is the base of these is clear which allows it to light up a bit and make the bulb itself look more brilliant, which is different that the older bulbs I have that are solid white and did not have this effect. I'll make sure to get the white painted ones next time as they throw more of the light down instead of being so glaring as these.

I returned it for a bulb with a flat surface such as the Phillips par 16 which doesnt have this issue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Landscape Lighting, February 16, 2011

Illuminates backyard landscaping very well. I purchased (4)bulbs and installed them before snow. With 6 inch snowfall all were totally covered. The lights are on a timer and came on as scheduled. Their heat defrosted an area around the fixture(s). One lamp cracked and failed; the others are fine. Perhaps they are not "snowproof"?

We bought a 3 pack of these and put them in last December. They provide a very nice bright white light however the first one went out in 3 months the second one in 7 months and the 3rd one in 9 months. Not a good value for the price.
