Vintage Barkays!,
By A Customer
This review is from: 48 Hours (Audio CD)
This is probably one of the MOST underrated discs out there! The Barkays are still one of the most FUNKY bands in the world when they apply themselves! This disc has some slammin' jams and, for those that love the 'lectric slide - the song "Slide" is the bomb! Play it at any party and you'll see results! This disc also has the slow jams: Can't say enough about the duet with Evelyn 'Champagne' King - "If Loving You is Wrong", and "If It Takes All Night". Right down to the finale: the "Megamix", this disc has it all. Buy it before it goes out of print.

The Bar-Kays have had it,
By Glen Zimmerman "RealMenDriveFords" (Lindenwold, New Jersey) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: 48 Hours (Audio CD)
As has been said many times before, even great artists can overstay themselves. At the time that this album was made, the Bar-Kays had sustained a successful 20+ year recording career despite some hardships in the group's early years. However, even the best funk bands were starting to run out of fresh ideas towards the end of the 80s, and such is definitely the case with this 1994 album. With no standout tracks, this album pales in comparison to the earlier, classic material of The Bar-Kays, and doesn't even sound that good compared to many lesser artists of that period. They attempted a comeback in 2003, but it was pretty much ignored.
