I bought this guitar for my five year old son because I had also purchased for his sister the Barbie electric guitar for the holidays. They are so close in age that what you do for one, you have to do for the other so I was in a bind to find a guitar for him as well. This guitar does absolutely nothing. It plays one recurring melody ( that gets really annoying very fast), and there is really no way to shut it off until it cycles through the hard rock riff at least ten times. Unlike the Barbie electric guitar (see > Barbie "Jam with Me" Electronic Guitar ), this toy has no features. As I purchased the Barbie guitar first I needed to find a comparable guitar that could play multiple melodies, has actual strings for strumming, and has numerous options for loads of fun. This Simba guitar has strings and makes noise, that's all.
I would not suggest that you buy this Simba guitar, If you have the time to find something else that would be your best bet. My son really wants to play with his sister's Barbie guitar but he wont touch it because it's pink.

While another reviewer correctly critiqued this guitar in that the actual sounds this thing makes are quite horrendous (and I do agree), it's a great toy for kids in the 2 year old range, given you take out the batteries first. There are strings you can "play" and it looks quite real. My boy loves to sit with it whenever wiggles or any other guitar playing shows come around. He can accurately strum the strings. Of course I'd never recommend it for older kids that actually want to play the guitar or really would like some music to play along to. For twenty bucks it's been a big hit around our house and that's why I've given it a high rating.

Fun little guitar - it's definitly a toy, not a 'real' instrument,

My 3 year old is really into music, he loves guitars. I bought this for him since he 'strums' on everything, making it a guitar. Do not buy this little toy if you are looking for a real guitar. It's plastic, has little wires for the strings and the most annoying prerecorded music (supposed to sound like rock music but it's just horrible noise).
However, this guitar is perfect for a little one to just play with. My son carries around the house, "playing his guitar". The second I purchased this I took out the batteries and I'd advise anyone to do the same thing! The toy has held up fairly well, my son is very hard on it....he really rocks out! hee hee |
