4.0 out of 5 stars Not for 5 year olds
A nice crafts project but not for 5 year olds (the product states "5 years and older). Plan for about 2 hours (at least!) to make this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just Don't
It all looks innocent enough when the gift is unwrapped and your daughter's eyes glow as you explain she will make her own fairy princess doll.

It all looks innocent enough when the gift is unwrapped and your daughter's eyes glow as you explain she will make her own fairy princess doll.

Then you begin . . .

The 52-step instructions seem thorough enough and you are warned to read the entire booklet through before you begin. I did. The moderately well-written instructions are complete with one-inch photographs that appear to be helpful.

Now you begin . . .

The hair is kinda fun. And easy.

The top of the dress is less fun, and it's difficult to really figure out the shape in which it should be cut. And I still don't know why I had to cut a "V" out of one side. But I did.

Now attach the three parts of the skirt and wrap the belt/sash around it. The double-sided tape is particularly amusing.

That was fun. Right? Don't worry! You'll likely get a chance to do it all again when it starts to simply fall apart in your hands. And probably a third and fourth time, too. Or you can save some time now, on the first pass, and simply glue the skirts to the doll.

Next there is reference to doll's "shoulders," but, sadly the doll has no shoulders. You need the shoulders because that's where you are going to apply the flowers that you cut up into little pieces and attach together. Save yourself some trouble and just attach the pink flower to one "shoulder" and the green flower to the other "shoulder."

Now glue the glitter to the wings with the glue, sponge, and template. Try not to breath in the dust from the glitter. Really, I'm serious.

Now cinch the wings together with the silver cord. Oops, try again. OK, it will work better the third time. See!?!?!?

Attach the wings. Pretty easy.

Use the face template to color the face.

Assemble and attach the wand.

Now you have a finished doll that looks just like the picture on the box. Right?!?!?

Perhaps I am being too harsh. Maybe the "educational" rating should be 5-stars, because your child will learn patience, a few new cuss words, and how to avoid wasting hard-earned money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy this if you want to get frustrated and annoyed, August 12, 2010

This is so poorly made. I'm not even going to go as far as to say maybe it's ok for older kids. The glue didn't work at all, and each step of the process has to be done multiple times to get it to stay together (for what will only be a temporary time). My kids seemed happy with it, but I was very annoyed by the end of this doll making session. BOOOOOOO! TWO THUMBS DOWN!!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars A mistake, December 25, 2011

Here's my theory: somebody crafted a prototype of this doll, and took it to the finest toy manufacturers in China. They consulted with their teams of expert seamstresses, who said, "We can't make this."
So they decided to sell it as a kit instead, to unsuspecting grandmas everywhere.
If you have no grey hair before you start this kit, you will have lots of gray hair when you finish, if you have any hair at all. And by finish, I mean, when you get to the point where your daughter/niece/granddaughter has long ago lost interest in your fiddling with tiny bits of double sided tape (which require a needle and/or toothpick to separate), and is playing with her other toys, and you say, "Good enough! Here's your fairy doll!"
