Book Description

My intent in writing 4th gear is to provide cutting edge information to all endurance riders that will help them and their horses reach their goals. We will cover many subjects you may have been in doubt about and hopefully a couple that you hadn’t much considered yet. I will raise as many questions as answers and call on you the reader to tap your inner horseman to come up with solutions yourself to the challenges that will arise. This is a skill that will in large part determine your success and satisfaction in this greatest of equestrian sports. These endurance horses are extreme athletes of the highest caliber. Together let’s develop a program that will bring out their best.

A little too technical for me, and I didn't care for the writing style. Rebecca Weaverling  |  1 reviewer made a similar statement

5.0 out of 5 stars 4th Gear, it's all progress! April 13, 2012
Dennis hits his subjects head on and doesn't mince words. His AERC (American Endurance Ride Conference) record speaks for itself, with several thousand miles riding horses with many miles, most in the top 5, and several best condition awards to his credit. This book is a must read for anyone wanting to take their horse to the "next level" of endurance riding/racing.

Great read - enjoyed the candid details about horses and the sport itself. Funny and clever with thoughtful insight into choosing a horse, training it and maybe riding in the Tevis Cup.
