Another great album by West Indian Girl,

Great follow through to their first self titled album! Was worth the long wait to get this one...
Musically the album sounds great...brilliant production, nice and diverse tunes, right from rock n' roll to techno. Lyrics are quite good too. The album opens with "To Die in LA"....an apt song for a band from LA, or was it coincidence! Next song is "Blue Wave"...another tribute to the ocean lovers which has some inspiring lyrics like "try to catch one, only the best one". The third song "Sophia" seems to be a tribute to a person close to the band who lives no more in this world. The albums ends with an upbeat song "Get up"...a classic ending, and most likely would be the band's closing song at their live shows...like pearl jam's "rocking in the free world"! so get up and buy the album...worth every buck! and if you have a few extra bucks to spare, don't forget to grab their first album - "West Indian Girl"...that was a masterpiece.

Radiohead meets Walt Disney,

Warning: I'm not a Kool-Aid drinking grass-roots fan of this band, so this review is an honest one. First, every song sounds almost exactly the same on this album. Yes, there are some differences here and there, but its basically the same song over and over again. Second, as hot as the lead singer might be, it's obvious she's there for the visual effect only. Her voice is intentionally buried in the wall of cotton candy sound here, almost as if they don't really want her to be heard. Maybe there's a reason for that. Maybe Trent Reznor can spice things up for the next album.

The album deserves more air play. One of the best efforts by any band in years.,

The Album begins with the erotic, To die in LA, and continues with the probable singles Blue Wave, Sophia, and All of My Friends. Then the incredible song Indian Ocean. Indian Ocean is my favorite track on the album. It is briliantly put together, with enchanting harmonies. It grows on you as the song is created. The Album is good from beginning to end. The last song Get Up is a great live song. I have heard WIG in concert twice this year and they sound hot. They should breakout soon.

Great Cd for the bands sophomore attempt. They sound more comfortable with each other and this leads to a more mature sound. I recommend this to anyone who is a music fan. Don't miss out on this one!!

I love these guys. I must have listened to their first album a thousand times and this one is great too. I especially like "Get Up", "To Die in L.A.", and "Indian Ocean". Only thing is that I first heard the band live on a KEXP podcast. I heard a single strong, clear, gorgeous voice doing backup vocals on Indian Ocean and so that's what I'd expected and instead heard two people which seemed odd.
If you hadn't been used to that it wouldn't make a difference to you it's just something I noticed. It's cool how down to earth and thoughtful the band is- I wrote an email and received a response within hours, and when I ordered some stuff from the store on their website they gave me a signed poster and extra shirt. I opened my package and thought there must have been some mistake but no, it was just someone out to make my day. |
