Astounding.,
By Matthew C "Reformed Snob" (Anchorage, AK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 4x4 (Audio CD)
This is a great record by Mr. Tyner. It fits a nice balance between some of his really loud records on milestone that have Azar Lawrence (like Enlightenment) with some of his dull string-ladden ones like Fly Away with me.
I don't have the liner notes because my copy is a d/l, so I'm not too sure who is making up the four quartets. But the guitarist is very impressive, as is the vibraphonist. The reed man is merely adequate and no substitute for Trane at all. McCoy brings forth his usually fiery flourishes here, and balances it out with a few medium tempo ballads. Nearly all of McCoy's Milestone albums are excellent, they should all be picked up.
