I have been a big fan of Royal Robbin's "Desert Pucker" shirts. However, like many others, I have been disappointed with the fraying of edges along the hems of the sleeves and bottom edge.

Like Desert Pucker, the Royal Robbin's Vernon shirt is a "polynesic" blend (also called "modal"...a plant-based poly/rayon blend), but with subtle vertical ridged texture. As such, the shirt is mostly wash-and-wear. The Desert Pucker benefits from a bit of touch up with an iron, but I usually do without. Probably because of the ribbed texture, the Vernon is even less prone to wrinkling.

The stitching is different with Vernon. Desert Pucker has a line of stitching just at the edges of the hems and I think that may contribute to its tendency to fray because it puts additional strain on the edge. The Vernon shirt does not have that extra line of stitches and after 6 months does not show any signs of fraying like most (but not all) of my Desert Pucker shirts have.

The buttons are the same as the Desert Pucker: the nice, flat, pewter finish metal buttons with Royal Robbins embossed inte the surface. I do miss the vertical stitch in the pocket that Desert Pucker has, creating a nice little pen/pencil slot. The Vernon has a more traditional single pocket space, but I suppose that makes it a classic.

I see the Vernon shirt as a big improvement over the Desrt Pucker, which previously has been my "go to" shirt for daily wear.

Update: just noticed that one of my Vernon shirts (the oldest, in green or "Lizard") is showing some signs of pilling. Not a lot, and limited to a small patch on the front (rubbing against jacket zipper perhaps?). I'd like to dock 1/2 star for this, but the rating system does not allow for half increments.

I bought this shirt at Christmas for my husband by mistake. I was actually looking for a different type of shirt, but was in a hurry and bought this instead. It has turned into my husbands favorite shirt. It is soft and comfortable to wear for him. Comes out of the dryer without one wrinkle so I love it too. Needless to say my husband is keeping the shirt. I think you will be happy with this purchase.

I have purchased several Royal Robin products this month... The shirts, especially this one are perfect, high quality and get dozens of compliments! I am overwhelmed with my RR pants, great fabrics, great fit and oh so comfortable!

Another quality clothing from RR. Nice fabric for Summer wear. Cuttings fits my frame size. Sure missed having the "hanging loop" beneath the collar.
