5.0 out of 5 stars Best pack so far, June 26, 2010

This review is from: 5.11 Rush 24 Back Pack (Sports)
I've been a pack junkie, user, trader, buyer, and I guess a bit of a collector for 4 decades. I served in the 80's and I humped the various ALICE versions all over the world. Have tried many (WAY TOO MANY) packs over the years looking for the right one. For what I need now...this is just about the perfect pack for me. I also own the RUSH 72 as a home based Bug Out Bag...I bought it after using/abusing this RUSH 24 for over a year now.

It's been a year of daily carry for my EDC RUSH 24, using it as a briefcase if needed, laptop bag, and on camping trips and canoeing trips as my only bag. I've had it covered in dust, mud, heavily rained on, and it's been thru the desert.

I have it in black as that's the least "hey, I've got a military/MOLLE pack here"...from 5 feet away, the MOLLE just about disappears. Very low key. I wear a suit and tie every day to work...this bag still looks great.

Inside the front-bottom-outside pocket is all the little things I use daily. Pens, pencils, markers, multitool, surefire, deck of cards, chemlights, beef sticks, packs of paracord, Spyderco Military, monocular, and this time of year, suncreen and bug spray, along with some other stuff. everything in it's own pocket!

top-outside-butterfly pockets - one side has gum, wallet, cell phone. Other side has Ipod Nano, earbuds, small pocket gun when I have no pockets .in basketball shorts - which I wear a lot in summer. (gun is legal, with CCW permit)

Eyeglasses pocket on very top is handy - my soft Maui Jim case fits in there just fine. Probably don't need to use the case here as the pocket is lined, but it fits, so I do.

Side zipper pockets - one holds camelback 750ml with a soup can made into an emergency stove/water boiler. Other side holds gloves, shemagh, two buffs, and a larger survival knife - a Rat-4. (now they are called ESEE knives)

All the zippered mesh pockets on the inside hold everything else I'd need to last awhile on my own but don't use a lot...stuff like medical kit, zip ties, gun cleaning stuff, camp towel, more food, CR 123 batt's for my surefires, all kinds of stuff...tons of stuff.

Inside the front lid on the bottom is a zippered pocket that's not mesh, I have extra ammo for the Glock on my hip and the back up gun, a couple contractor garbage bags, and packs of Molle clips.

In the bottom/middle is a maxpedition M2 waistpack that contains a mini survival kit that I put on my waist when I canoe...in case I'm separated from my pack. Also here in the bottom/middle is a full sized (3xl) rain jacket

The bottom back pocket has a laptop type pocket, I have a bible, checkbooks, dayplanner, and notebook in there.

The entire middle of the pack is open and I can put my laptop, files from work, or anything else I want to in this spot. It's really cool to carry all the stuff I do and still not use the middle of the pack at all. I've quit carrying my briefcase to work - this is all I need.

Daily load out, minus the laptop and with an empty water bottle is 19 pounds. The back padding is so sweet, the stiff (but comfy) layer that's inserted along the back is SO great, the weight of the pack feel like nothing when I put it on. Although I do carry a cheap 1 inch buckle strap...so that I can make a waistbelt on the fly using the MOLLE - in a BOB situation, I'd want the weight shifted to my hips, not on my shoulders all day.

The RUSH 72 holds more: a hammock, more tools, more ammo, climbing rope, etc....but I think I could make it with what my EDC RUSH 24 contains, if I had to. I also carry boots/BDU's ina separate bag in the jeep at all times.

I don't know what you'll use the RUSH 24 for...but if you like to be organized with your stuff...this bag will do it, and it's bombproof tough...not even a stitch loose on mine after a year of hard use and countless abuse. It washes well too.

I work 2 full time jobs. One as a Professional Civilian Firefighter & I am also on on Active Duty in the Army as a Firefighter. I needed an above ordinary bag to keep me moving between the two jobs and I decided to go with this pack. I am extremely happy with the choice I made, plenty of compartments and the materials are of high quality, simply put the bag is top notch!!! Don't second guess yourself and over anyalize this, just do it, you won't be disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pack!, December 30, 2011

I have been looking for the "perfect" backpack to use as a range bag for years. I shoot pistol competitions and have needed a bag to hold all of my gear and supplies for multi-day matches. I have bought off brand bags, the Maxpedition Falcon 2 (great pack, well made, too small for my needs) and finally bought the 4.11 Rush 24. It is a great bag! The pockets are well thought out, it is very well made, and holds a lot of gear without being too big. I have had it loaded with 30+ lbs of stuff and it is comfortable to carry all day. Anyone looking for a range bag, overnight carry bag, or even a small BUG out bag will like this pack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my use, December 8, 2011

Figured I should write a review since I count on them so much. This is one well made bag, you can tell from other reviews. Size? Perfect for me - - I need a big bag but not huge. I use this for " normal" everyday stuff , laptop, iPad, work stuff - plus it had to be big enough to also carry sneakers and gym clothes.

Size is great. - plus when you wear it, I swear it just disappears off your back. It feels so light even when loaded.

Good bag!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pack, February 16, 2012
This review is from: 5.11 Rush 24 Back Pack (Sports)
This pack has a place for everything. I have used this for bug out bag and now has a pack for school. Fits my 13 macbook pro great and all the stuff I need for class. My previous pack by maxpedtion fell short for this matter. It doesn't feel as rugged as my maxpedtion but it keeps my stuff more organized.

5.0 out of 5 stars Killer Pack, February 15, 2012
This review is from: 5.11 Rush 24 Back Pack (Sports)
I have this pack in multi-cam and I am totally satisfied with it's overall build quality and it's features. I work in LE (23 yrs) SWAT too (7 yrs) as a Sniper. I use this bag as my field pack because of it's moderate size. But don't let it fool you, this pack has storage compartments upon storage compartments and can hold a ton of stuff!

Throughout my carrer I have been to numerous SWAT schools and traning sessions where I have been around high end tactical gear. This bag passes the test. I also have T.H.E. Pack by Spec Ops (another killer mil spec bag) as my 72 hour BOB. I don't buy junk cause I can't! You will like this bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth $100? Hell Yes!, December 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 5.11 Rush 24 Back Pack (Sports)
After my last road trip to Orlando for the Performance Racing Industry show with HSMWorks, I realized that my current backpack just wasn't cutting it anymore. Getting the laptop in/out was a hassle and the internal storage was meeting my needs for all the different pieces of electronics I was carrying.

Uncrate turned me on to this pack and after reading up on it, I decided to take a flyer with it. $100 is a lot of money (to me) for a pack, but I needed the upgrade.

I got it this morning and I am a happy lad.

First and foremost, it swallows my HP Elitebook with no problems while providing excellent protection. My old HP backpack was just a shade too small for the new Engineering PC and I couldn't really zip it all closed. No problem now.

Then there are the plethora of pockets including a very cool top-loading, felt lined sunglasses pocket. Good thinking kids.

Two side pockets that run the length of the bag are cool and the huge array of internal pockets, zippers, velcroed hidy holes and the like are fantastic.

And then, there is the full yoke which really distributes the load nicely (ever been to Heathrow and had to hike klicks between terminals?) and it has a chest strap that keeps it all snug. Gotta love this bag.
