**UPDATE 10/26/2013 - Hard to believe - this bag is STILL my favorite. Not one issue, my content has changed a little (ipod, lol...have all music on my ipone now!) and I've used this for work and play - but it really shines for work or travel - especially business travel. the compression straps (and the ones I added at the bottom really suck down the bag to pass inspection for carry on use too. almost 3 1/2 years of at least 5 day use and a lot of 7 day use. Wow, that's wild, and nothing is wrong with it at all.

Original review -- I've been a pack junkie, user, trader, buyer, and I guess a bit of a collector for 4 decades. I served in the 80's and I humped the various ALICE versions all over the world. Have tried many (WAY TOO MANY) packs over the years looking for the right one. For what I need now...this is just about the perfect pack for me. I also own the RUSH 72 as a home based Bug Out Bag...I bought it after using/abusing this RUSH 24 for over a year now.

It's been a year of daily carry for my EDC RUSH 24, using it as a briefcase if needed, laptop bag, and on camping trips and canoeing trips as my only bag. I've had it covered in dust, mud, heavily rained on, and it's been thru the desert.
I have it in black as that's the least "hey, I've got a military/MOLLE pack here"...from 5 feet away, the MOLLE just about disappears. Very low key. I wear a suit and tie every day to work...this bag still looks great.

Inside the front-bottom-outside pocket is all the little things I use daily. Pens, pencils, markers, multitool, surefire, deck of cards, chemlights, beef sticks, packs of paracord, Spyderco Military, monocular, and this time of year, suncreen and bug spray, along with some other stuff. everything in it's own pocket!

I have had this pack for a couple years and it has been a pleasure to own. There are plenty of other reviews that go into detail about the pack, so i wont do that here. But one thing this pack is missing is a waist belt. I have found that the Condor 241 battle belt with a 1-1/2" web belt is a perfect combination for a waist belt on this pack. For a belt I am using the Blackhawk! 1.5 inch instructors gun belt. The best part is that you can get them to match some of the colors this pack comes in. See a video review of the pack with an attached waist belt setup on youtube under the ODCaveman channel by searching for 5.11 rush 24 waist belt.

I would highly recommend this product and someday plan to purchase its bigger brother the rush 72 to keep in my vehicle as sort of a "bug out bag" and keep this one reserved for day hikes or traveling as a carry on. The materials this bag is made out of seem very durable. The design is well thought out, there are so many compartments and pockets that you really can keep a ton of stuff in there and yet keep it all organized. Another thing to note is that at least for me, I have to keep the shoulder straps quite tight to take advantage of the yolk design of the shoulder straps. This keeps the pack riding higher up on my back and keeps the yolk closer to the back of the neck area. If you are a person who wears your pack hanging down at your ass then the design is pretty much defeated.

Also the chest straps can be easily moved around by simply taking them off of the molle. They have a break in the plastic clip that holds them to the shoulder straps to allow you to remove them and adjust them.

Based on reviews I bought this pack sight unseen. It's my first piece of 5.11 gear and as expected I am very impressed with the quality and workmanship.
I inspected a friends Rush 12, but I thought I was looking at the Rush 24.. I thought ahh this size is perfect. When the actual Rush 24 arrived I was like.. oh my this is huge. The 22x12x7" dimensions (33 liters) are only the main pouch. The admin pouch adds another few liters, and the pack can bulge outwards to maybe.. 40 liters total. Its by far the largest frameless pack I've worn.

This size is too big for my daily use. I should have payed attention to the name.. this can carry everything I would need for a 24 hour camping trip including tent, sleeping bag etc.
That is not a complaint, just an observation.I am keeping this for my Bug Out Bag and getting the Rush 12 for EDC/work use.

UPDATE: The Rush 12 is a great size for taking my EDC, lunch, and a few items to work and back. The Rush 24 is now my GET HOME bag in my car. It is a great size for such an application, bug out, get home, 72 hours, etc. All the pockets and such make organization easy (shelter, fire, water, food, etc.)

I was looking for a durable, well made back pack. I didn't want one made of that nylon stuff. I wanted one that would put up with abuse of hiking and any outdoor activity. When I came across this one it fit the description. I backpacked in New Zealand for 6 weeks and it did the job. I have pros and cons with it.
Some of the pros are that the bag can fit a lot of gear in it. The tier system is so welcomed. I could arrange the gear as needed. Yes I had to buy more straps, but it is nice knowing I can retrofit just about anything to it. By the middle of my trip, I was like this thing is my buddy. Most Backpackers had this huge pack that was like bigger than them. I was just cruzing right around them. The fabric is durable and water resistant. Zippers are also very good. Pockets galore! I am amazed by how much I could pack in this pack.

Some cons are the waist straps, or lack of them. Not totally bad though. There is a buckle there to add your own waist straps. Since it is a "24" hour pack. You are limited in what can be brought. I got this thing so packed that the shoulder straps started to seperate from the pack. I think if you are going to do more than one day of hiking than I would recommend the "72" Rush pack. Which by the way is what I will be purchaseing soon. There is much you can do with this pack, you are only limited to your imagination. If you have any questions, please ask.
