About the Author

At the age of nineteen, Juliette Guidara outgrew Switzerland and moved to America. She learned the language and successfully worked her way up the corporate ladder to vice president of operations for an entrepreneurial enterprise in Los Angeles. She eventually moved to Boston to marry the love of her life, Frank. She then changed the path of her career to fulfill her fundamental need to help people and became a hypnotherapist. Little did she know at that time, how much that would be needed! A member of the National Guild of Hypnotists, Juliette is certified in Complementary Medical Hypnotism, is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and has her Masters Certification in Neurolinguistic Programming. Eleven days before their first wedding anniversary, she learned that Frank had contracted pancreatic cancer. The couple went through the big three: surgery, radiation and chemotherapy and also ventured into many complementary and alternative healing modalities to finally beat the disease. This dramatic and painful experience led Juliette to research cancer and the immune system, as well as other healing modalities. She became a passionate student of anything that would help Frank in his recovery. As a result, she became a Certified Tong Ren practitioner, a raw food chef / teacher / instructor. Her book, 5.4%, is an honest and true story about love, commitment, strength, courage and dedication. It is that fundamental need to help people that drove her to write this book in order to share all that she has learned.

By the second page, Juliette had me hooked. Her honesty, passion and vivacity shine through every page. I admit to being a little biased, as I know Juliette and have had wonderful sessions with her. However, there is also a steady stream of interesting characters and events that kept me laughing, crying and page turning as I wondered, what next? It is not just an important book on recovering from what is often thought of as a terminal illness, it is about love, faith and turning that extra mile into an incredibly spiritual journey.

Juliette opens with her and Frank's history and one can see that they took on pancreatic cancer with the same deliberation and determination they put into the rest of life's challenges. Rolling up their sleeves, they both sought until they found the best answers and, when necessary, moved away from situations that weren't working, taking with them those lessons that made them better, stronger, and more conscious and loving. And when positive opportunities presented themselves, they found the strength to move heaven and earth to get where they knew they belonged.

By the time I got to Frank's diagnosis, I felt as if the story were happening to relatives or close friends. It helps that I know 2 of Juliette's angels, too, Marie-Lou and Tom Tam. Marie-Lou is one of the loveliest beings I have ever met, and Tom saved my life in 2005. Once healed I, too, began doing Tong Ren for others, particularly for late-stage cancer and ALS patients. Fatefully, the second person I worked with had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was told to go home and get her things in order over the next couple of weeks as they had nothing that could save her. She was 76.

True and personal, written well. It brought the reader right into the heart of the ever changing struggles and emotions faced each day. The laughs, the tears, the absurdity of some of the treatments, then the pure elation when the words "your clear" were spoken. The love for each other and faith this couple had from their darkest to their brightest days makes this book a MUST read for anyone struggling with emotions or illness.
A great book for anyone who likes a good down to earth true life story.

This book was life changing for me. I couldn't put it down. A wonderful love story with an abundance of information on the habits that most people do not know are killing them. Everyone must read this book.

This is a wonderful book filled with inspiration and hope! A love story everyone should read! At the back of the book Juliette has the reference information, which makes it more handy. Their story is amazing and I recommend it to everyone, even people that do not have cancer. It is very touching and well written love story. What makes it even more special is it is true! I am so happy for them and her husbands recovery!

This book was a gift to me. My husband has pancreas cancer. As soon as I started reading I was so drawn into this book. Stayed up half the night reading and finished the next day. Beautifully written. So real. I could totally relate to the emotions. There is also a lot of fun humor. This is not an all gloom and doom kind of book. Very upbeat. Lots of helpful information on how they are living large with pancreatic cancer. A book of Hope. I feel this is a great book even for those with out pancreatic cancer. There is a sweet loving family story through out. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Chris Pyle

Juliette and Frank not only offer how-to counsel in the spontaneous telling of their story but shine as examples of how love, positive thinking and changing life style CAN save a life.
