4.0 out of 5 stars Possible Fix, April 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: .223 5.56x45mm Caliber Cartridge Laser Bore Sighter Boresighter (Misc.)
Please read all of this review as it may provide tips and fixes for your problems. Originally this item arrived to me defective. The laser would turn on and off sporadically. I had to constantly unscrew the end-cap or lightly tap it to get it to come on; and then hope it stayed on as I placed it in the chamber.

I contacted the distributor (Outdoor Bunker) who without question sent me another one. The new one arrived in a timely manner with a free return shipping label. What I noticed about the new one (aside from slightly different packaging and brass shape) is that the 3 battery cells were shrink-wrapped together like one battery with clear tape. This not only made inserting the batteries easier, but the devise functioned properly right away.

Using this same concept with the old malfunctioning boresighter, I tightly wrapped one layer of tape around the 3 battery cells together atop one another using a small thin clear piece of packing tape that I had cut to match the exact height of the 3 cells. I then inserted them into the laser. To my surprise, the defective unit now functioned flawlessly. I wrote my findings on a note to the vendor before I shipped it back.

Other tips: This laser boresighter does not perform to an exact zero, though it will get you on paper and save the cost of a few rounds. Specifically, due to inconsistencies in manufacturing, each customer will probably experience difference results because the laser is not mounted (glued) perfectly in the center of each shell casing. For example, you could get a completely different result just by turning the casing 180 degrees within your chamber. A solution to this may be to mark the side of the casing and attempt to load the boresighter with the same orientation during each use. It would serve no purpose to mark the end-cap because it may not screw in the same each time. So as stated, mark the side of the casing and then pay attention to its orientation as you slide it in place each use.

And one last tip: I read another reviewer explain how to use this device and stated that after insertion, he allowed his bolt to release. I would never recommend you release your bolt on such a sensitive piece of electronics. Rather, I carefully glide my bolt forward to keep the laser in place. When boresighting is complete, I then slowly lock my bolt to the rear and shake the laser boresighter out through the magazine well or ejection port into the palm of my hand.

Hopefully other customers will read these tips and try them. I expect you should experience some of the same successes that I have which may prevent some frustration before having to return the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleased customer, June 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: .223 5.56x45mm Caliber Cartridge Laser Bore Sighter Boresighter (Misc.)
I originally bought this product because I own 2 AR-15's and both had scopes on them and I didn't feel like wasting my ammo trying to sight each of them in. Now my original order arrived within the alloted time, I followed the directions on how to use it, unscrewed the end cap inserted the 3 small batteries and bam it worked, then I put the product in the bore of my rifle and low and behold it died and wouldn't work. So I contacted the distributers customer service folks . They were very professional and said they would send me a replacement in the mail that day and a return postage label to return the defective item. 2 days later I recieved 2 replacements instead of one like my original order. I opened the 1st on put the batteries in it and it didn't work. So i opened the 2nd item and did the same, but it to did not work. So again I called the distributers customer service people and the apologized for there product being defective and they asked for my phone number? A hour or 2 later the owner of the company himself calls me ,apologizes again for his product being defective and said he would send me out a replacement, but this time he would have his tech people make sure the replacement item was working. So a few days later I get the final item in the mail and it works just fine and I am a happy camper. If your looking for a boresighter like this one buy this one. It wasn't the distributers fault his item didn't work ,his manufacturer sent him items with the batteries and the batteries were dead. Replacement batteries are inexpensive if u buy them through Amazon only $2.59 for 10

5.0 out of 5 stars solid boresighter, November 13, 2009

This review is from: .223 5.56x45mm Caliber Cartridge Laser Bore Sighter Boresighter (Misc.)
does what its suppose to do. i only trust cartridge based boresighters. those other plastic "sticks" im not so sure about...this slides into the chamber and you feel that its dead on. it has no on/off switch. once u stick the batteries in (included) it turns on and stays on. kind of an issue...but where can they put a switch anyways? im not sure myself. saved me probably a dozen or so rounds to zero my ar rifles. dont know if it replaces a live fire zeroing. i still take them out to do that. but i went from maybe 25 rounds to 3-5. worth it to me! :)
