Great Diet Book,
By A Guy in Indianapolis (Indianapolis, IN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The 5-Factor World Diet (Hardcover)
I recommend this common-sense diet book, particularly for the recipe section. This book is 271 pages long, not including notes, an index, and a separate index of recipes (which I think is a good idea). There are 125 pages of recipes, and I have tried a few and found them to be simple to prepare and very good. The estimated preparation times appear to be accurate. The various cuisines included in the recipes provide a good deal more variety that many diet plans, yet they all adhere to the basic principles of this diet. If the diet you're on is getting boring, this one should provide some good alternatives. Even if you're not on a diet, the recipes are worth the price of the book.

The pot sticker recipes are healthy and fabulous. It is easier to make these then to order carry out. I also loved reading about the different approaches to eating and exercise in countries with low obesity rates.

Easy, Excellent Recipes,
This review is from: The 5-Factor World Diet (Kindle Edition)
Okay, so this book explains why many Americans are overweight/obese (and you already know the reason: too many calories + not enough exercise) and then compares the way we eat to the diet of people from a handful of other countries (Greece, Italy, Japan, Sweeden, etc.), who rely on natural, fresh, low-calorie foods (and a good walk). It is all very common sense, but what makes this book so awesome are the recipes the author includes, inspired by his travels to these "healthy" countries. The recipes are easy, delicious, and nutritious (with many of them taking less than 30 minutes to make!) Follow the recipes and you won't be disappointed by the meal or snack you make. P.S. The salmon teriyaki is delightfully simple and crave-inducing!

Pasternak's 5-Factor Diet book is one of the best diet books around and helped me to change my approach to healthy eating and exercise for good. Now this companion piece expands on those same principles while giving us a real melting pot of culinary experiences from around the world to broaden our horizons! Each chapter divulges a concise and informative breakdown of what makes the cuisine of other nations healthier and teaches us how to adopt their habits and recipes for better living. Well worth reading!

Another weight loss book but with an international twist. It has some very interesting information, but let's face it, we all know by now that broccoli is good for you whether or not they eat in in Japan. There are some very interesting recipes but am I really going to make smoked salmon nori roll and eggplant caponata for my snacks today? That is not to say that I wouldn't eat them because in all honesty, many of the recipes look delicious. Also, the recipes make 2 servings, and that's a plus in my case. Another good thing, most of the dishes look relatively easy to make. The bad thing, some of the ingredients may not be readily available in some areas. For adventurous cooks interested in healthy eating, this may be just the book you're looking for.

Simple Plan With Tasty Recipes,
By Bill Cashell "Author of The Emotional Diet" (Omaha, Nebraska) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: The 5-Factor World Diet (Hardcover)
Harley Pasternak certainly has the credentials. He is a nutritionist and personal trainer to Hollywood celebrities, and is also the author of the bestselling 5 Factor Diet and 5 Factor Fitness
5 Factor World Diet is based on the same principles as his other books. The basic 5 Factor approach is: Eat five meals a day, with five core ingredients and five minutes of preparation time. He also adds five weekly workouts. Do you see a trend toward 5? There is one cheat day each week where you can eat whatever you like. The difference in this book is that it also includes nutritional habits and popular foods of ten of the healthiest countries in the world. Pasternak has adapted these principles to include international foods and the eating patterns of some of the world's healthiest people. There is some interesting information, such as why Singapore has an amazingly low obesity rate of less than 2% and the self-control technique used by the Japanese that prevents overeating. Pasternak claims the major cause of obesity in America is due to a trend towards unhealthy habits, such as eating on the run and snacking in front of the television. Another problem is increased portion sizes and excessive amounts of high-fat animal products. That should not come as a surprise to anyone. He believes that we can learn a lot from the countries that have lower obesity rates and health statistics. If we can adopt their habits of eating smaller portions and taking time to enjoy our meals, we will not only find it easier to manage our weight but also improve our health. He does encourage exercise but does not adequately address the psychological aspects of eating and weight gain. Some people may get caught up in the celebrity endorsements and expect a magic bullet. It is important for dieters to realize that they may not achieve the same results as his celebrity clients simply by following his plan. Bottom Line: The 5 Factor World Diet offers dieters a structured program that incorporates healthy habits and delicious foods from some of the healthiest countries in the world. It does not eliminate entire food groups and the weekly cheat day makes it easy to stick with the plan long-term. It includes a meal plan and tasty recipes that are easily prepared. If you are looking for a simple approach and enjoy global cuisine, you will probably like this plan.
