This product has some features that attract the attention of my fourth child who is nearly five months old. Flashing lights, spinning balls, and a popping cylinder do keep children interested. However, the volume seems to have two options: loud and dang that's really loud! Granted, the product is meant to promote stimulation for the young mind, and studies suggest that infants respond best to sound. But the volume on this product is far too loud for an adult who is standing five feet above it. Imagine lying beneath a small cacophonic carnival and not knowing how to plug one's ears! The manufacturer needs to modify the volume control or provide ear plugs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Returning to the store this weekend, October 20, 2005
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: 5 - In - 1 Adjustable Gym (Baby Product)
I am returning this toy to this store for two reasons. First, there is no way to adjust the volume on it and it is deafening. One song in particular (I believe it is Yankee Doodle) is louder than all the others and, when it came on, my son jumped and started bawling. (I have never seen any toy make him cry...) The speaker is on the front of the activity board and, when using it in a seated postion, it is right at ear level. Second, I had hoped my son could use this in the kicking position (he loves to kick), but that was a no go. He is six months old and 27 inches long. When I laid him in position so he could kick the "kick plate", his upper body was too far back to reach the activity board no matter how I adjusted it. It's too bad. With a few minor adjustments, this could have been a great toy.

I love the fact this toy can convert so many different ways. When our daughter was an infant, she sort of liked it but it was almost impossible to get the music to play (I had to swing at the toy myself) and it is wayyyy tooooo loud! I was suprised there was no soft/loud switch like most toys have now. I had to tape cloth over the speaker. My husband accidentally put it together backwards (so that her head is up against the green seat thing) - the instructions weren't clear and once you put it together, it appears there's no mercy in fixing any mistakes. Hopefully it will be more fun when she's sitting up and playing with it that way.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far--a great toy!, September 24, 2005
This review is from: 5 - In - 1 Adjustable Gym (Baby Product)
Our son LOVES this gym! He smiles every time the music starts and the lights start going. He's only 4.5 months old, so we have it set on the "motion" setting and ANY time he kicks it, hits it, or pulls on the toys, it plays music. He'll lay under it and squeal and entertain himself for close to an hour sometimes! The batteries seem to be lasting really well also! We did buy rechargables just in case, but so far we haven't had to charge them in almost a month of him playing under it every day! The toys swing down so that he can get to them easily and discover how to manipulate them. We have it sitting up against our fireplace, so with him laying under it and kicking it, it doesn't move. I think that removing the bench, as someone said in another review, is also a smart idea and we may try that eventually b/c he likes to feel like he's with us in the room sometimes. I'd recommend this to anyone and I look forward to the other stages of it as my son grows!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun, versatile toy, January 15, 2006

Although this was purchased for our infant son, his 2-year-old big sister got to use it first as a desk. This toy is easy to adjust (hence the name) and we've now turned the table so that our son can sit up and play with it. Since he has now started to pull himself up, we easily turned the table to a different setting so he can play with it on his knees. And if we make the table flat, he can stand and play. It'll later be used to help him cruise around, and will get even more use when we convert it back into a desk.

The music is pleasant-sounding and they're nice songs, but it is loud, so we just covered the speaker with a piece of tape- now it's a more comfortable volume.

Both my 9 month old and my 2 1/2 year old like playing with this toy, and the nice thing is that they can both play with it in different ways. I'm very happy with this toy and I'd recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love this toy!, November 17, 2005

I'm a little suprised to see the negative reviews as we have had great experiences with this! My 7 month old has used it since he was 3 months and still uses it every day! The toy did slide when he kicked it but that was easily remedied by placing the toy against a couch or wall to hold it steady. He loves the lights and the toys and the music. Now he will sit or kneel and play with the toys or pull him up standing and hit the keys. We keep it on 'keys' (like a piano mode) and let him make his own music!! This is the only toy he has consistantly used. It is a bit loud but that doesn't bother us and he loves it! I hope you'll give this toy a try... it really is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy for baby & toddler, November 29, 2005

I am extremely happy with this toy. I purchased the gym for my one month old who for the past four months has used it quite often along with my 3 year old. They are both now big enough to sit at the piano/desk together and love it!! I agree that it is a little loud and my youngest was able to kick the gym away from him easily when hitting the kick plate, but despite those negative aspects, it is an absolutely terrific toy!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible at 'stage 1'!, October 31, 2005

I think I am going to return this toy. Though my toddler likes it (despite being so big that when he sits in the seated position and tries to use the drawing board, it hits his knees), my baby can't use it!. She likes to kick when she gets excited - as most babies do - and she kicks the board and knocks the toy so far away from herself that she can't reach it! What a terrible design! All they needed to do was make it a little longer, or curve it less away from them. Very poor design.

I bought this toy for my 3 month old. I read the reviews on how the toy shifts for the laying down infants, so what I did was remove the detachable bench/foot stool. Now he can play with it without moving it. I like that the light and music play to stimulate him.
