The book that saved my marriage..., February 6, 2006
This review is from: 5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Recipes (Better Homes & Gardens Cooking) (Plastic Comb)
So our baby gets up every day at 4:30am, and by dinnertime, I'm ready for bed, too tired to stand let alone cook. My husband, while great at cleaning, is lousy at cooking, so I got a crock pot for my birthday.
I bought this book because it looked like the recipies were interesting, not just variations on beef stew.
WOW, the recipies are amazing in this book! I may never order pizza again. Everything is quick and easy to prepare, all the measurements and cook times are correct, and there are a bunch of different flavors to sample.
This cookbook also uses a lot of frozen vegetables in the recipies, which is a must for a busy family. The Mediterrinean Chicken is super yummy, very non-traditional for a crock pot. The Original Beef stew is so good my husband practically licked the bowl, and the Cola Pot Roast is fun to make and delicious to eat.
People think I'm crazy to use my crock pot so much, and then they taste the food, and all of the suddent they're dragging out their crock pots and using this cookbook as well.
By the way, many of the roast recipies ask you to brown the meat. It's super fast and easy, and definitely worth the trouble.

* Saves Those Who Cannot Cook!! Or Who Don't Want To! *, January 30, 2005
This review is from: 5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Recipes (Better Homes & Gardens Cooking) (Plastic Comb)
You cannot go wrong with this book. Many recipes are super simple... you buy five ingredients, throw it in the crockpot and PRESTO CHANG-O RE-ARRANGE-O: YOU HAVE A GREAT MEAL WHEN YOU GET HOME!!!!!!!! I sound corny about this, I know, but you don't know how wonderful it is to do so little and come home to such great, home cooked meals. I hate cooking. I cannot cook. This book is my saving grace. So far my favorite is the Keilbasa Black Bean Soup... hearty, thick, satisfying. Love it!
* If you like to cook (some odd balls find it theraputic???) then this book is not for you. If you like to eat but either do not have the time to cook good meals or cannot cook them for lack of skill, then this book is worth its weight in gold. One thing I love as a Capricorn is something that has value and something that I can use. This book will be in my regular book collection for the rest of my life -- -- I'm sure of it. ;)

Simple and Good Recipes, December 15, 2006
This review is from: 5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Recipes (Better Homes & Gardens Cooking) (Plastic Comb)
This is a great slow cooker cookbook, ESPECIALLY for "beginner" slow cooker chefs. I always feel free to vary the recipes (using more ingredients, usually) but they give be a good start from which to base a meal. Also, we travel A LOT in our 5th Wheel (RV) and this is the ONLY cookbook I bring... After a long day outside, we return to the RV and our nice crock pot. The recipe ingredients are easy to keep on hand (canned goods, frozen, etc) and so I can meal plan two-weeks worth of travel food from this cookbook without having to go back to a store in the meantime.
