Your Heart Beats!,
By
This review is from: Megaherz 5 (Audio CD)
The opening title track, "Dein Herz Schlägt" ("your heart beats"), is a perfect statement concerning the circumstances surrounding the release of this album. This is the 5th official full-length release for MEGAHERZ and the 1st with their new singer/lyric writer, Mathias Elsholz. Weathering the departure of their singer and key founding member of MEGAHERZ, Alexx, in late 2002; the band has come storming back with an amazing release. Mathias does not simply attempt to fill the void left by Alexx, he creates his own space within the band's dynamics.
The album contains the classic MEGAHERZ elements of hard, strong crossover-rock and German text. MEGAHERZ also continues the formula of weaving masterfully into the fabric of the songs, the brilliant melodic bits (sounds and samples) that they are known for. "Gott Sein '05" is an updated, polished, more menacing version of their original '97 WER BIST DU track. "Ja Genau" harkens back to the sprech-gesang style from KOPFSCHUSS, with a lot of tongue-in-cheek humour in the Text. "Wann wirst du gehen?" and "Augenblick" are both elegant ballads, with the latter showing an amazing reach into the depth of X-tian's composing capabilities by coming up with a 100% synth/electronic backdrop to the spectacular vocal spectrum of Mathias. MEGAHERZ are back, without missing a "beat".

Finally, a timely USA release for MEGAHERZ!,
By
This review is from: 5 (Audio CD)
This is the USA release of the identically titled December 2004 German release. The CD was originally slated for release in the Summer of 2005, but as a result of some unfortunate technical difficulties, the release was delayed until Spring 2006. The tracklisting is identical to the German release. The "enhanced" portion of the CD (pics, wallpapers, biography, etc.) has been translated into English. The CD booklet for the USA release does not include lyrics.

Invitation to bang your head,
By

I can only disagree with the person above me. Megaherz "5" is in the tradition of the older releases by this Munich based band. Of course a new singer sounds different and yes Megaherz sounds harder on this latest album. But in a way you can't compare those two sides of the band. It's like comparing a band like Pink Floyd from the times of Syd Barrett, to the times with and without Roger Waters...impossible, because every album has something very special. The same with Megaherz. I love "Kopfschuss" and "Herzwerk 2", but also "5", one of my favorite albums to work out with. On this release the band is much more based in a Metal sound. The voice of singer Mathias Elsholz is a perfect addition to it, a powerful instrument in itself.
Fans of the hard German sound with German lyrics should pick up this album. Highlights are for me "Dein Herz schlaegt", "Ja genau", "Ebbe & Flut". The fact that a German language band gets released over here in the US is a seal of quality in itself. The risk to loose out is too big for a label these days. Megaherz has had a huge fanbase in North America for quite some years. They ordered the CDs from overseas and even travelled to concerts abroad. This current release of the band in the US is a big event for the band and their headbanging American/Canadian fans as well.

Different from the past, but still amazing,

Even though they took a harder, more industrial direction with this album, every song on this still rocks and has the same energy that you would expect from Megaherz. Personally, I like "Es Tut Weh", "Augenblick" and "Ja Genau".

Great cd. It has a different singer than the previous cds though and they focus more on guitar and less on keyboards.

Perfect to get in touch with Megaherz,

A very appreciable album! Perfect to get in touch with Megaherz.
If you like german industrial metal, you shouldn't miss this one. Usually, Megaherz songs are serious, thoughtful in their lyrics and can be very romantic. If you want to fully enjoy these songs, you should take your time to read their lyrics (or to listen to the words, if you comprehend German).

A huge fan of Rammstein, I have never found a comparable German industrial band. Until now. 5 is one of the best I've heard and definitely ranks among the best the black red and orange has to offer.

New Voice, New Direction, New Sound: New MUSIC!,
By MJR "MJR" (Washington, DC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Megaherz 5 (Audio CD)
MEGAHERZ has taken an entirely new direction with MEGAHERZ 5 in its breakthrough 'industrial-crossover' genre.
With new frontman Mathias Elsholz and deeply thought-out lyrics, 5 truly crosses over the metal/industrial genre into rock with a symphonic punch. The two tracks which stand out prominently from MEGAHERZ past hits are Gottlich and Ja Genau. They both begin with a very hard metal ryhtm you would expect, but midway, they break out into melodic singing! It's like a little sunshine in the dark world of metal, and its so exciting that MEGAHERZ is the band to do it with 5. At the same time, metal and MEGAHERZ fans will not be disappointed, tracks such as Komm Ruber and Mach Dich Frei include very powerful riffs and synthesized vocals with punchy lyrics. I think die-hard MEGAHERZ fans will appreciate the versatility of Mathias voice. He is able to produce such a clean sound in his voice in tracks such as Gottlich and Augenblick but also very capable of the deeper metal voice that metal fans love (Komm Ruber (with distortion), Gott Sein '04). I am addicted to German Metal, and own over 20 albums, but MEGAHERZ 5 is my all-time favorite album. I totally recommend it. Thank you MEGAHERZ

"5" Finally Reaches the States!,
By Jonathan Ditmer (Maryland, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 5 (Audio CD)
Megaherz are back in full force with new lead singer Mathias Elsholz in their fifth full-length original album, "5". Though this American-side release has been a year late in coming, the CD remains one of the most unique available today.
"5" is a refreshing expansion on the music that Megaherz have been popular for for the past decade, taking a seemingly new direction altogether while still managing to keep the music true to themselves. No one song on the album sounds like the previous. It grabs your attention and doesn't let go, even until the very end. Songs range from the somewhat soft (such as "Ja genau"), to the harder ("Mach dich frei"), to those that fall somewhere in between ("Göttlich"), and all are well-crafted, beautiful fusions of guitars, drums, vocals and electronic sounds. If you're even the least bit interested in Industrial/Metal music, this is a very good choice! |
