The clear counterpoint,
By Masahiko OKAZAKI (Kochi, JAPAN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 5 Toccatas & Fugues (Audio CD)
When I received this CD from Amazon, the first thing to do was to check the "Dorian." As supposed at its sample, it was not less than Lionel Rogg's. My purpose seems attained, but other wonders were waiting. While "Toccata, Adagio and Fugue" is beautiful, BWV 540 is clear. Two weeks after I began to hear it, I have felt it the new standard in place of the dramatic Rogg's. Its impression is quieter and more moderate, because the sound is not so stressed. The performer's notice seems to be centered on the composition of Bach's counterpoint so that all parts could be recognized. It becomes important for me. |
