Book Description

0970722400 978-0970722409 March 15, 2001
Poetry. This volume contains parts 5 & 6 William James Austin's underground classic, UNDERWORLD. As the opening poem describes, Austin puts forth "a poetry which copylates beneath the pavement. so how the reader reads is a kind of surface experience, initially--like taking a walk around the city and feeling the underground connections--electric shocks to the body--subways who rattle their sunken cages--/the storm underfoot". Austin has worked as a musician and song writer in the worlds of jazz and rock music. Currently he co-edits the experimental literary magazine, BLACKBOX, while teaching at the State University of New York.

This review is from: 5 Underworld 6 (Paperback)
These poems are very evocative, uncompromising and yet beautiful. I'm not much of a poetry reader but these got under my skin. I plan to buy another copy of this book for a friend.
