It'll do...,
By Cori (Wisconsin, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 5 Year Diary: Black Cover (Hardcover)
I received a 5-year diary several years ago as a gift and I really enjoyed having it. You only get a few lines on which to write each day so it's not like you are able to plumb the depths of your soul, but I like being able to look back to see what my life was like on a small, daily basis over the years. I actually surprised myself by writing in it (almost) every day. When the five years were over, I looked around for another one but couldn't find one like the one I had (which had a spiral binding). I considered just using a nice notebook, but I couldn't find one that had 365 pages; it seems 320 is standard, and that just doesn't cut it for a page-a-day format. Finally I settled on this and it's... OK. They are not easy to find, so I'm happy to have a 5-year diary again and this fits the bill. What I'm not crazy about is the non-spiral binding, which makes it a little harder to open as far as you need it to (although if I use this every day for five years, I'm sure this will take care of itself). Also, the white horizontal panel on the cover is actually a mini-dust jacket, which I don't like at all. I'm sure I'll take it off before long which is too bad; part of the reason I chose this diary was because I liked the way it looked. But that being said, the pages are nice and thick and I like the book log at the end where you can recored the books you read.

Good as a one-year diary as well,
This review is from: 5 Year Diary: Black Cover (Hardcover)
Some time ago I grew enamored of old-fashioned pocket diaries that seemed to be popular during the 19th and early 20th centuries. This diary, in its dimensions and page design, is as close to those diaries as I've been able to find. I've been using it as a one-year diary, which is possible because the places where one documents the year are nicely unobtrusive, so I can basically ignore them. The lines are very narrow, but the paper is heavy and the binding is sturdy. Other nice features include several pages for logging the books one has read and a page for logging places one has visited. I wish the designer would come out with a true one-year version of this diary, but until that happens, I will be very happy with this one.

5 year diary = (old fashioned + good idea) x hard to find,
This review is from: 5 Year Diary: Black Cover (Hardcover)
A friend recently digitized her great grandmother's 5 year diary from the Great Depression and she really enjoyed the project, so I got her one of these for xmas last year. Then I got one for myself. This is the only one I could find on the market, and it's very well constructed. Looks like it will hold up for 5 years and beyond. It's also sized to be portable, so deciding against bringing it along on a trip won't be an issue.I also recommended that all my friends get one.

This product was exactly what I was looking for. It seems that this is the only 5 year diary in the US. It is like the old fashioned ones that had a lock on them in the olden days. I was very glad to find it, and it was shipped and received through normal channels in a very prompt manner.

The last of the diary keepers.,
This review is from: 5 Year Diary: Black Cover (Hardcover)
It's not the prettiest but for those who still like to keep a written record of their daily life it's what they can use without paying over $35 for a leatherbound or lock that they don't need once they aren't a teenager anymore! On the small side with just enough daily space to write events, thoughts etc.

5 year diary,

this was exactly what I was looking for as a gift for my mother. She has kept a 5 year diary since the 1960s, and they are getting very hard to find.

Love This Journal,
This review is from: 5 Year Diary: Black Cover (Hardcover)
Absolutely love this unisex diary since there are only a few lines per entry per day per year. I document timelines, glimpses, special thoughts, quotes, etc., so this is the perfect compact product for my needs. Also a good option if you get overwhelmed by a blank page or feel guilty for wasting paper/pages in between...

I like this diary a lot. I can basically confirm what other reviewers have noted; the space given for each entry is small, just a few lines, but for me this is perfect because I don't feel pressured to write a ton every day. I actually keep two diaries, this one and a notebook where I can write more when I feel up to it. I agree that the spine is a little bit stiff when you're first using the diary but I found that with a little force it loosened up nicely (aka I kept pushing back the pages until I they were able to lay flat). That white thing you see in the photo on the front of the diary isn't really intended to be part of the design (I don't think) because it's not attached to the book. It's more like part of the packaging which is fine by me because I travel a lot and I know that white sleeve would get very dirty as my diary is thrown from bag to bag!

It's easy to commit to writing something, anything, every day for 5 years when you use this nice little book. It's a good size, feels nice in your hand, and has a book log in the back. Makes a good present.

I was really excited when I found a 5 year journal.I haven't used a written journal in years, and I thought this was a good idea.So far I'm enjoying it.The only thing I don't like about it is that its a lot smaller than it looks, about 7x4in.This doesn't really leave much of a spot to write anything profound, mostly just a good way to simply jot down some of the fun or exciting things that you might have done that day.
