LG only offers a maximum 3 year extended warranty at the time you register your product online, so if you want a 5 year warranty buying it here is a way to get one. The 5 year warranty is $26.99 per year which is the same rate as the 3 year warranty that LG makes available online.

I compared this set to reviews of other 2D sets and found, for the price, this had more of what I wanted. The picture is terrific. The menus are pretty intuitive. The Wii-like second remote is good/bad depending on how well I manage the courser but I am reserving judgment. The fact that it is internet capable, not just internet ready, meant out of the box to watching was a breeze. I only had one glitch and that was coordinating my DISH instead of trying use a channel seeker at startup, but a quick call to LG and that was resolved in, literally, 2 minutes over the phone. As for 3D, the passive glasses are much better than the heavy active ones and MUCH cheaper. I even grabbed a few from friends who had accidentally left the movie theater with them. I have watched mostly IMAX movies in 3D so far and one Pixar movie with my grandchildren (Cars 2 in 3D). It is a fun feature to have and a great party and invite friends over kind of feature. But, i would not have bought ANY television for the 3D. Having it is just a bonus and the price difference was under 100 dollars. I am sure that to electronic measuring devices and for some people's really sharp eyes I am losing some clarity or brightness but to my eyes and those of my friends and family watching in 3D in my family room, it was just fine. Watching a Blu-Ray video on my Sony Blu-Ray DVD player brings a whole dimension of video pleasure that is simply stunning. I bought the set during Amazon's Veterans Day weekend, pre black Friday sale and it was less than it was on black Friday by almost 100 dollars and over 300 dollars less than at Sears. Overall, it is great. Naturally, really crappy sound, but I run the sound through an amp and Bose speakers, so for me, that was not an issue. From what I read, ALL new flat panels suffer seriously in the sound department so I cannot give a negative comment about that. Finally, and I cannot stress this enough, it is one of the few sets with a Matte screen finish as opposed to the shiny, glass finishes on Plasmas and, for some odd reason, many new LED sets. I imagine, again, I am losing a bit of brightness but not enough to matter to my eyes but that is more than made up for by the absence of ambient light reflection while I am watching the set.
