Whenever you think about Argentinean music, you think about Tango.
But there exist a whole universe of Argentinean folkloric music as representative as Tango or more so. Tango actually is Buenos Airs City's music.
Here you have a collection of songs that express the soul of the "gaucho" (the cowboy of the "Pampas", the Flatlands from Argentina).
The present compositions emerges from a different Provinces (Argentinean States), charged with their peculiar rhythms and sounds.
The "Chalchaleros" was one of the most traditional Argentinean folkloric quartets. Their voices, two high and two low, mingle with the sounds of guitars and "bombo" (big drum) in a seamless musical flow springing from the heart of the land.
After 52 years singing all around my country & the world as well they put an end to their wandering life and retire in heartedly friendship.
The present collection reflects their whole musical life; different members never altered their unique style and quality.

These are some brief comments about some of the songs of the collection.
In "Paisajes de Catamarca" (4) (authored by Rodolfo Jimenez) the poet describes the land as seen from Portezuelo's Heights, he sang to "thousand different green tints" and to the "scattered little towns".
"El Arriero Va" (7) is a composition from famous folklorist Atahualpa Yupanqui, about a typical gaucho's job: taking care of cattle flock thru Argentinean pampas.
"Yo Vendo unos Ojos Negros" (10) is an anonymous traditional composition about two magical and disdainful black eyes.
"Luna Tucumana" (18) (authored by Pablo del Cerro and Atahualpa Yupanqui) is a tender song addressing the Moon, as seen from the valleys of Tucuman, nicknamed "The Garden of the Republic", due to the wonderful woods full of flowers and rare trees that populate the smallest Argentina's Province.
"Angelica" (37) (authored by Roberto Cumbaré) is a typical love song about a casual encounter with a beauty from Cordoba Province.
"Sapo Cancionero" (60) the composer talks about....the Frog that he imagines in love with the Moon, even if it's conscious of its own ugliness.

This is a collection to be treasured by anyone in love with folk music of distant lands.

The music is great, bring back memories of my childhood, but some of the CD's came with glue from the case and add some distortion to the music. Other wise OK.
