I did not buy this product from Amazon, but from the publisher. I am an adult piano player who has only the humble aspiration of one day playing competently and effectively for congregational worship. However, while playing out of a hymnal is not usually considered a difficult task, I ceased my formal study of piano at a young age (stubborn), and anything with more than 2 sharps or flats in the key signature is intimidating for me.
So to work my way up, without putting off the service of playing for a congregation for next decade - I purchased this book to help me. Many of the songs in our hymnal are here presented in easier keys, with simplified notation. However, I feel that it is no so simplified that it will sound overly juvenile or embarrassing to play for a congregation that knows these songs well and will help cover any potential "holes" in the harmonies and fill out the sound. The congregation with which I worship is truly like a family, very informal/forgiving/indulgent when it comes to having non-professional musicians participating in worship, so this will work for me to practice accompanying their singing, focusing more on a steady tempo and just the sheer terror of being on stage rather than hitting every note in the hymnal correctly. (Though hopefully that will come in time!)
I'm not sure why another review complained of no cd being included - unless one was advertised, which in the case of purchasing from the publisher, it was not - and the music is not abbreviated, only the lyric stanzas are - the first verse of each hymn is printed along with the music, a feature very much appreciated! - but only the first verse.Read more ›
