Before Fifty Became 50,
By
This review is from: 50 Cent Is The Future (MP3 Download)
As many of you know a hip hop artist is hyped via the mixtape circuit prior to the drop of an actual album. Many use this same strategy to boost their worth during the negotiation process. That's exactly what this mixtape was. A hyping of Fifty before the more polished 50 came to Interscope.
That being said, there's something about the earlier gritty less perfected 50 that is extremely appealing. The stand out track from this "mixtape" being the final song Bad News. The hook is very catchy while the lyrics have you following 50 in a street life filled with all the accouterments of an aspiring hustla on his grind. If you like to go back and read a favorite authors previous books or a movie producers early works then you'll wanna grab this CD from an emerging 50 Cent. There are 2 or 3 more of these that I copped back in the day. I can tell you as an average...not even close to avid 50 fan you won't be disappointed.

Nice early G-Unit material,

This is one of the 3 mixtapes 50/G-Unit put out in summer of 2002 to put his new crew on the map. Of the 3 this is the worst ("No Mercy No Fear" & "God's Plan" I'd give 4.5 stars each. This one has 16 songs/freestyles on it. You get 6 ok songs, 1 classic, 1 near classic, and the other 8 are good. 50 is on all 16 songs, Lloyd Banks is on 8 and Tony Ya Yo is on 7, and Young Buck appears on 1 (though he wasn't a part of G-Unit yet). For fans of the 50 we all loved when he first came on the scene, pick this and the other early G-Unit mixtapes up.
