5.0 out of 5 stars Help with table of contents
For those of you who are having trouble finding the "Table of Contents", I thought I would share what I did and perhaps it will help. First I went to the "Cover Page", I then selected "Go to Location" from the "Menu". I then typed in 2000000. That brought me to the very end of the book, and the last page of the "Table of Contents". I then backed up a few pages to the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Table of Contents does not work
The Table of Contents only shows the first 13 titles. How are you supposed to get to the books you want to read without reading the whole set from front to back? And without access to the internet, how can you remember which 50 books are in this set? (Whispernet does not work where I live). Searching does not work either. It keeps telling me to "try back later"...

5.0 out of 5 stars Help with table of contents, November 30, 2010

For those of you who are having trouble finding the "Table of Contents", I thought I would share what I did and perhaps it will help. First I went to the "Cover Page", I then selected "Go to Location" from the "Menu". I then typed in 2000000. That brought me to the very end of the book, and the last page of the "Table of Contents". I then backed up a few pages to the beginning of the "Table of Contents" and then "Added a bookmark" from the "Menu". I hope this helps. I have just started reading one of the books but so far I have not found any problems. This is a great price for so many great books.

4.0 out of 5 stars I should have known better, July 1, 2010

Though in the description it says it has an active table of contents it does not. I should have been more wary of fifty great novels going for a paltry price of $2.99. In fact I can't even find any of the authors because this great mass of text is not indexed.

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong since I've only had my Kindle for about four hours.

Indeed it was not that I was doing something wrong, it's that I discovered that the Kindle 2 indexes new books upon rebooting (slide the power switch and hold for about 15 seconds). Now I did a search for the authors/books I wanted to read first and bookmarked them. Not elegant, but worth spending a little effort to read classic works.

1.0 out of 5 stars Table of Contents does not work, August 20, 2010

The Table of Contents only shows the first 13 titles. How are you supposed to get to the books you want to read without reading the whole set from front to back? And without access to the internet, how can you remember which 50 books are in this set? (Whispernet does not work where I live). Searching does not work either. It keeps telling me to "try back later". When? I think that this is the worst review I've ever written. The next should be worse because it involves a similar problem in volume two where there is NO table of contents.

BAD BAD BAD

4.0 out of 5 stars 50 Classic Books: Volume One, November 20, 2010
This review is from: 50 Classic Books: Volume One (Kindle Edition)
Without the active contents, I was pissed but decided to search each title and add my own bookmarks. After adding close to 20, my next search found a list of titles.... the contents is at the very end (99%) and once you find it, it does work .... so you can bookmark it and have an active T.O.C. A hassle, but still a great deal for 50 classics.

After two downloads of this book and three calls for support I was unable to get any Table of Contents. Without this it is not of value. It is too large to attempt to search or scan for various titles. Too bad as the selection of books looks like a great bargin.

Hmm, that's funny, I have this and the Table of Contents works fine for me. Maybe they fixed it? There are some occasional misspellings, but that's the only problem I have.

4.0 out of 5 stars a lot for a little money, December 18, 2010

I think this is a great bargain. You definitely get a lot for your money - 50 books. Needless to say, I have not finished reading all of the books but I am enjoying them. The only negative is: All of the books are in one big file. That means I can't just go to one specific book directly or even go to a table of contents to find the book. I have to jump from one book to the next, looking at the title page of each until I find the book I want to read. For the price you pay though, that's a minor inconvenience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to complain about this..., November 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 50 Classic Books: Volume One (Kindle Edition)
The good: 50 great classics for a very low price

The bad: no table of contents

The ugly: some random paragraph breaks; because there are so many pages and books, it is difficult to get a sense of where you are in a particular book (is the story still building up, or am I close to the climax?)

Different folks appear to have different experience with table of contents. On the Kindle 3G, my experience is:
- no table of contents
- the right & left arrows on the 5-way controller cycles through the books (although in some cases it lands on a blank page and you have to go to the next page to begin the book)

So overall - For the price, I would recommend buying this if you want to read at least a few of the books in this collection.

No active table of contents as advertised. Called customer service, had it refunded and told to try another download. That didn't work and called again. Said they were going to check into it and haven't heard back from them in a month.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection, January 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

After I found out how to get to the Table of Contents from one of the reviews, I think it is a great bargain. Since I've just had my Kindle for 2 days, it's just amazing what can fit in that little pad. Like 50 Classic books! Hopefully I'll feel the same way once I've read a complete book from the collection.
