It Makes Heaven Real - Highly Recommended!,
By Carl in Tampa (Tampa, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 50 Days of Heaven: Reflections That Bring Eternity to Light (Hardcover)
Shortly after the passing of my wife I was given a copy of 50 Days of Heaven by a friend who is an internationally known and highly respected Evangelical theologian who has himself authored several theological books - which are available from Amazon.
As a life-long Christian I had no doubt that my wife and I would be reunited in Heaven, although with a somewhat altered relationship, but the thought was not as comforting as I would wish. My concepts about heaven were somewhat intangible and "spiritual." Randy Alcorn's book has changed all that. I now have some very specific ideas about what Heaven will be like with regard to physical characteristics of what he calls the "New Earth" as well as personal relationships, duties and responsibilities and living conditions throughout eternity. His point that we will retain our memories of each other (or we would not actually retain our unique personhood) is very comforting. I now view my wife's death as the beginning of a temporary separation which will be concluded with our reunion in Heaven where our relationship will continue throughout eternity. Although we will no longer be man and wife, our memories of an enduring loving relationship on earth will form the basis of a similar eternal relationship. Our happiness was always founded on being together and doing things together, not on where we were or what we were doing. In Heaven it can only be better! This book contains 50 four-page essays on a variety of subjects. It is a condensation of Alcorn's longer book entitled Heaven. Those who enjoy the smaller book may want to continue their study in greater detail by reading Heaven.

Removing the Mystique About Heaven,

The Bible actually has quite a lot to say about heaven. Randy Alcorn's 50 Days of Heaven presents us with an easy but profound read that takes away much of the mystery about life after death. Randy uses the Bible as the foundation of his work. He's done a good job of presenting a reasonable biblical point of view about heaven and what life will be like there. Although I strongly recommend this book, I have to remind the readers that Randy does draw conclusions about what is implied in the Scripture verses he uses. I can't say that I agree on every point, but I think that the majority of his work is sound. I'd recommend this book for anyone who fears death, anyone who realizes someone they love is dying, and those who want to better understand life after we leave this earth. I found it to be very uplifting and encouraging. This book is written in 50 devotional readings. Randy has also written a more exhaustive book called "Heaven" for those who are up for a more in-depth look at this subject.

Great little devotional. Especially if someone has had a recent loss and they are wondering about what heaven is like for their loved one. Also, gives a good perspective to start or end your day. I am buying a few more for other family members.

A Fantastic book that gives much hope (for believers in Jesus) and helps us to lift our eyes and look forward to our eternal home. Especially comforting if you have lost a loved one or know someone who has.

'Fifty devotions to spur your heart toward eternity.'
In 50 Days of Heaven: Reflections that Bring Eternity to Light, Randy Alcorn pulls select portions of his bestselling book Heaven (Tyndale House, October 2004) into short, power packed devotions. Each devotion has a bible verse, a quotation, the text of the devotion, and ends with a prayer. This was my favorite prayer. I am praying it on a daily basis: "Father, fill us with the wonder of being able to see you face-to-face." Why read about heaven when you are battling so much suffering in your day-to-day life? Because, to the Christian, Heaven is our destination. Knowing what the Bible says about what is promised to us, establishes a perspective and gives us hope when we face troubling times. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, when we focus on Heaven, we begin to see the people around us differently. We rejoice with those bound for heaven and we grieve for those who are not. Pick up 50 Days of Heaven: Reflections that Bring Eternity to Light and read these short messages about where Christians are destined. Very enlightening and enjoyable, filled with wonder and hope. I recommend it highly. Reviewed by: Keiki Hendrix Reviewed for: The Vessel Project

50 Days of Heaven: Reflections That Bring Eternity to Light is an awesome Biblically correct book on Heaven. A daily devotional that helps everyone from the new Christian all the way to more learned Christians understand what we should all know about Heaven. Such a Blessing it is!

This is a wonderful devotional for the many questions people have about heaven. It has especially helped me since I lost my son knowing that I will see him one day and a glimpse of what heaven will be like.

This is probably the best book I have read about heaven. Please read it! What I like the most is the main points are substantiated by Scriptures. Yet, there is also room for creative thinking. I am recommending it to all my family and friends.
