I am a great admirer of the works of Guy Davenport. I was hesitant to buy this book because of the price tag, but since I'm trying to collect as much of his work as possible(for one day I think it will be banned and/or out of print) I splurged on the purchase. There are drawings that I have never seen before, and also many that are familiar from his works of fiction. I think some of the drawings are second-rate and think they should not have been included in this collection. I also think that the images should not have been printed back to back on the same sheet of paper, as the black lines from one side of the page are visible on the other side.
Would I have purchased this book had I seen it first-hand in a bookshop with this price tag? Probably not. Will I be glad I own this book in 25 years? Absolutely. But I'll always remember the hefty price I overpaid, even for an autographed book. |
