Love the Sad Chairs!!,
By
This review is from: 50 Sad Chairs (Perfect Paperback)
This book is a hilarious and creative follow up to Milk Eggs and Vodka by
Bill Keaggy. His humor in the titles shows his creativity and made me laugh over and over. Artistically I am drawn to many of the images, as well and he really made me look at objects that I would drive by and rarely notice. Even my kids enjoyed the book. Very Fun!

humanity in microcosm: a gem of a book,

I bought this book more or less by chance but since then have shown it to friends and students and bought it several times for gifts. It's a delightful little book, a perfect gem of its kind. There's beauty: lots of surprisingly lovely compositions (numbers 9 and 23 are among my favorites, but there are many others.) There's pathos. (As Keaggy playfully writes in the book's single page of text, "These are the forsaken chairs, left for dead...they saved us from having to sit on the floor! And how do we repay them? With a grunt, a curse, and a heave-ho to the street.") There's humor, provided mostly by Keaggy's ironic captions. There's story, hidden in and around the chairs. Above all, maybe, there's an awful lot of human life, even though no humans are actually pictured. Our inventive designs, our everyday routines, our cities, our styles, our impatience with things old or worn: our human nature and our culture are all here in microcosm. Highly recommended, both for your own pleasure and for gifts for interestingly quirky friends.

Funny beyond belief,

This book is funny beyond belief! I laughed out loud over and over. "Worst vacation ever" was my absolute favorite photo. The photos are very well done, but it's the captions that really make this book.
He can't possibly be an academic, he's too funny. I'm going to check out his grocery list book now.

This book is a real treat. Your coffee table is longing for it. It's a simple, well put together book that will inspire the artist within. A must have, would make a great inexpensive holiday gift. I have one for myself and have purchased this book for friends.

I can't wait for Bill to get to 1500 sad chairs and maybe then it will be coffee table book size. A powerful dose of dark comedy in a cute little package! A great gift for those who like St. Louis, street photography, dark humor, chairs, sociology. By anthropomorphizing chairs, Mr. Keaggy gives us the opportunity to see the humanity in simple glimpses of life. Another reviewer said that you will begin to see chairs everywhere, I agree!

This book makes a great piece for a coffee table or a gift. The size of the book is a little disappointing though. Otherwise I'd give 5 stars.

I bought this for my granddaughter's babysitter. She is currently using it as a creativity item for her older kids. Each child chooses a picture and then writes a little story about it. I thought it was interesting just to see the abandoned chairs. Made me notice when neighbors a few doors down had some old chairs in their yard with lights strung across them. I wish now I'd gotten a picture of those.

Book was in great condition and arrived sooner than expected. I thought the book would be larger, teach me not to pay attention, but my friend loved the pocket size. She carries it everywhere!

Bought this book as a funny gift but I thought it would be larger. This is the size of the palm on a hand...TINY. Not what I was expecting. I think it is a funny book but wish it was larger so someone could display on the coffee table.
