Book Description

Frequently Asked Question 1: Why buy this book?
The tiny cost of this book may be the best investment you ever make in furthering your writing career.

Since 1987 I've written continuously (fiction, fact, comedy, jokes, speeches, autobiography, dialogue, prose, poetry, kid’s stories and one-man shows … ) and despite a forest of rejections I can measure my progress financially and numerically... and almost every success has stemmed from a 50-Word Mini Saga.

Technological developments like Kindle mean prospects for all writers have never been better. These advances have taken the reins from the Publishers and handed them firmly over to ordinary folk, people like you and me.

In this handy guide I share insights into creativity, how to build something great from something small – and how to make your efforts work for you.

Frequently Asked Question 2: What exactly is a 50-Word Mini Saga?
It's a type of story, exactly 50 words long, invented and unleashed on the world in 1982 by top British author Brian Aldiss.

Frequently Asked Question 3: What does fifty words look like?
Here's an example:
Mandy was constantly enraged by Alec’s unpunctuality.
Homeward bound he used a public toilet, but a prankster had superglued the seat. He struggled to hospital where the seat was surgically removed.
Mandy was furious at this, his biggest lie… until she saw the news, starring Alec and a lavatory seat.

Frequently Asked Question 4: 50-Worders – What’s the point?
Writing 50-worders is a fascinating, entertaining and highly rewarding art, pastime and a real challenge. If you can conquer this challenge you will develop your writing ability way beyond that of the ordinary man in the street.

I’ve seen how some writing greats have used Mini Saga-type techniques to create and market their full-length writing. I've done the same with a measure of success and seek to share my experience and know-how in this book.

More About the Author

Why do I write?
Because I was designed to, because I have helpful things to say, because I like to encourage laughter and to help economies by encouraging trade and enterprise

What do I write?
Jokes, speeches, mini-sagas, plot ideas, dialogue, early-reader books, young children's books including comedy and adventure, young peoples' adventure stories, novels for adults, How To ebooks, autobiography, blog posts, business guidance and business ideas.

How do I write:
As I do anything: passionately and completely.

Do I draw on life in my writing?
Well, life has been so rich that it'd be silly not to. To give you an idea as to the roller-coaster ride I've had, I've worked as a Civil Engineer, a till assistant in a convenience store, an after-dinner speaker and a business coach.

I've been an independent storyteller in Schools in Scotland, the Midlands of England and London.

I've been on National TV and Radio a total of ten times or so.

I've taught creative thinking to individuals and groups of all ages, as well as public speaking.

I've made a significant income from writing funny speeches, particularly for weddings.

I have studied comedy till it comes out of my ears. Hang on a minute - what's that coming out of my ears.

I have studied lateral thinking and idea-generation for management, for invention and product development, for problem solving, for plot and character development in story writing and for humour.

I'm a passionate musician, particularly in the realms of jazz and blues trumpet, now discovering the harmonica.

I feel the troubles of people I love, of people I don't like, people I don't know, even of the impoverished billions I'll never meet.

I have known hundreds of different sorts of people, all of whom I've tried to treat fairly and well.

If there's something I wish to do I will do it - as long as it is moral, legal and ethical. No-one saying "You'll never do that" has ever stopped me from at least having a go. I have made errors, but I have learned and grown and developed as I've gone along.

What has been the most difficult thing in life? Well for me there have been three:

1. Attempting to follow the guidelines of Jesus
2. Being a level, reliable, understanding husband
3. Setting up and running a successful business

Nowadays 3. comes quite easy. I'm a self contained writer, marketing and ideas man. As well as any number of books I have created about a hundred fleshed out business ideas which I will soon be making available.
