The King Of Rock N' Roll,
By
This review is from: 50 Worldwide Gold Hits: Volume 1, Parts 1 & 2 (Audio CD)
I've listened to Elvis sing since I was a babe. My father was and still is a die hard Elvis fan. Naturally, I too learned, very quickly, to love Elvis's music. You can say I grew up with this stuff. This double CD album of greatest hits really defines what makes Elvis Presley one of the greatest entertainers of all time. The first disc contains Elvis's music before his army days not including the last two songs. The rock n' roll rebel is underlined in this disc with edgy love ballads like "Heartbreak Hotel", "I Was The One", "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" and "Any Way You Want Me" to upbeat dance tracks like "Hound Dog", "Jailhouse Rock", and "Hard Headed Woman". The first disc is what rock n' roll is all about. A great addition to the first disc at the end of the disc is "Crying In The Chapel" that underlines his Christian faith. This song serves to tell us that even if Elvis was a force to be reckoned with, he was still a religious man with personal convictions. The second disc are songs after his army days up to his untimely death. The songs in it are more main stream that probably expanded his audience from screaming teenage fans to the general public. It features songs before his 'movie career' with songs like "Stuck On You" (my personal favorite)and "It's Now Or Never" to music during his movie days with songs like "Can't Help Falling In Love", "Return To Sender", and "Kissin' Cousins", and after his movie days with his return to his country roots and being a full time singer again with songs like "Don't Cry Daddy", "Kentucky Rain", and "Suspicious Minds". This two disc compilation really shows us the transition of his music and it redefines to us what makes this man 'The King of Rock N' Roll'.

If You Can Only Buy One Elvis CD, Get This One!,

If you're looking for the Bible on Early Elvis, this is it. The greatest compilation of his hits from the 50's to the 70's, from the soulful "Heartbreak Hotel" to the stand up and dance "Jailhouse Rock" to the wistful "Suspicious Minds," this CD covers Elvis like no other. If you grew up while Elvis was in his prime, this will evoke memories long buried. This is truly the soundtrack of your youth with "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck," "Teddy Bear," and more. Fifty great classic Elvis tunes and, as a bonus, there is Elvis speaking during interviews as he was entering the Army. A must for every Elvis fan and a definite need for any fan of 50s and 60s music.

A Review In Retrospect,

This review is from: 50 Worldwide Gold Hits: Volume 1, Parts 1 & 2 (Audio CD)
This was, and still is, an ultimate compilation album spanning the late 50's thru early 70's of the greatest recording's of Elvis. This compilation offered perhaps the best retrospective & current overview of one, I personally believe THE, greatest recording artist's this past century. With all due respect for varying musical genre's thru the 60's, 70's. 80's etc., this album alone still stand's the test of time & is a fitting tribute to the Ultimate Performer, one Elvis Aron Presley.

Terrific Collection Of His Greatest Hits!,
By Barron Laycock "Labradorman" (Temple, New Hampshire United States) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: 50 Worldwide Gold Hits: Volume 1, Parts 1 & 2 (Audio CD)
This collection of Elvis songs is perfect for someone who is interested in having the best of his single releases. For those of us who grew up hearing these songs being played as the background to the movie of our everyday lives, each brings back some dusty memories; hitching a ride in a friends reworked '51 Ford and hearing "Jailhouse Rock" for the first time, or driving to Pennsylvania for my older sister's wedding and listening to "Don't be Cruel " as we hurtled down the highway. Yet much of this music came relatively later in his career, which is to say after he returned from the Army after a two year absence doing his patriotic duty. So we have quite a mixture of different kinds of Elvis music, for what came after he returned was far less edgy and different than it had been before. Now he seemed to stick much more closely to a formulaic kind of song, much more main stream in songs like "Stuck On You, "Good Luck Charm", and "Return To Sender". Which isn't to say they were not good or that we didn't like them. But a lot of what he recorded in the 1963-67 timeframe was a lot like what everyone else was doing, or had been doing, in pop music. Yet there are some innovative and impressive songs here, such as "It's Now Or Never", which was almost operatic in its delivery. This was a side of Elvis we had never recognized in any of his previous work, and he showed exactly how good a voice he had to work with. So we have quite a range here, from the early work like "Good Rocking Tonight", "Baby, Let's Play House", "All Shook Up", and "Heartbreak Hotel", as well as some softer and more mainstream work like "She's Not You", "Devil In Disguise', and "Suspicious Minds". Anyone giving a good listen to the range on this CD can see just what kind of musical legs this guy had. Enjoy!

Fine Elvis altogether, but what about "King Creole" or "Kiss me quick"? Of course, we all have different opinions of the "ultimate" collection of the King, but at least "King Creole" should be on every "Greatest" collection....
