Book Description

September 1, 2004
Celebrate the amazing evolution of beadwork from a simple craft to expressive art. Every stunning sculpture, vessel, figure, loomed and woven work, free-form installation, and piece of jewelry shown here in glorious color photos is gallery-quality and thoroughly unique. Jennifer Maestre’s intricate, swooping pencil-point bead sculptures explore form, motion, and space. A. Kimberlin Blackburn has fashioned lush Hawaiian Island scenes out of glass beads and hand-carved wood. The ever-innovative David K. Chatt has entries ranging from the pointed commentary, White Men in Suits, to vivid jewelry. For a little humor, try Valeria Harlow’s masterful Toe Mangler, a testament to every woman who has ever suffered in uncomfortable shoes. This amazing collection is truly state-of-the-art.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute MUST!! I'm readyfor a Volume 2!! September 8, 2005
Format:Paperback
If you can stand the waves of inspiration and delight, this is an absolute must-have addition to your beading library. Even non-beaders who appreciate seeing an incredibly broad range of well-executed and innovatively designed art will enjoy this book. Unlike another reviewer (whose "retread" remark surprised me), I felt this book had a huge selection of previously unpublished material -- and I have every issue of B&B and Beadwork and a lot of bead books, so I've seen a lot. I found the quality of work represented to be very high, and the range of uses for this medium to be delightfully astounding. This book is a true wealth of inspiration and beaded soul food!

5.0 out of 5 stars Joy! November 2, 2005
By Czarina
Format:Paperback
I can't tell you how enjoyable this book is. With very, very few missteps (one or two beaders just don't belong in this book), it's a feast for ravenous eyes that satiates all beady hunger and leaves one in a state of bliss.

I've been beading since the Sixties, I'm good at it (more than one person has told me my work belongs in this book), and I am so, SO happy I own this lovely tome. You will be too. I've learned from looking, I've absorbed from seeing the works inside it, and I know it's enriched me in ways I will never even be aware of. Buy it! Now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful works of art February 9, 2005
Format:Paperback
This book was purchased as a Christmas gift for my daughter, an accomplished beader. The book is for inspiration more than anything, because it is full of fantastic projects done by a variety of bead artisans. It is eye candy for beaders of all levels.
