3.0 out of 5 stars Book of Fussy Salads..., July 29, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 500 Best-Ever Salads: Presenting Every Kind Of Salad From Appetizers And Side Dishes To Impressive Main Courses, With Cold And Warm Recipes, And Meat, ... Step-By-Step With 500 Colour Photographs (Hardcover)
This book is full of salads recipes and nearly every recipe is accompanied by a full-color picture. However, nearly all the salads are what I call "fussy." I was expecting some unusual salad recipes, but also recipes for potato salad, cole slaw, etc. Traditional salads with a twist. However, all the dishes are the type you would be served at a fancy restaurant that cost too much and contain too little.

I entertain a lot, especially around the holidays, and in rural Ohio basil leaves, nuts, watermelon, and some type of vinegarette don't cut it. We like substantial food. I was very disappointed with the collection and would not recommend it for someone looking for new takes on old favorites or new ideas for using all the vegetables from your garden.

However, if you enjoy serving beautiful, unusual dishes, this would be a great addition to your cookbook collection.

I have never seen a cookbook with so many beautiful color photos that give you a real feel for the dish. For presentation, this book gets 5 stars!

The recipes are short and require few ingredients. They are simple to make so you do not have to be a skilled chef to prepare them. With 500 recipes, there is probably at least 1 recipe for everyone (I even found one I like). Just think about the type of salads you are wanting to make before you decide if this is the book for you.
