Simply the best,
This review is from: 500 Cabinets: A Showcase of Design & Craftsmanship (500 Series) (Paperback)
From time to time a series of books creates a cult following, like those of Carlos Castenada, and this book 500 Cabinets will certainly excite those of us fortunate enough to be selected to show off their best new work. Its a juried selection, thats to say that not everyone that submitted work got in. Now that I like. Its not vanity press publishing, but genuine effort has been made to select only the best examples by a jury of our peers. As the eagerly awaited follow-on to 500 Chairs and 500 Tables, this tome shows us the best of designer makers not only in the USA but further afield - UK, Finland, Israel, Holland, Australia and Ireland, making this book much more interesting to dedicated followers of fine furniture fashions. It is a marker of time, showing the state of the art of designing and making mainly wooden furntire as we see it today in 2010. Now there's a thing - one can repeat this book title in, say, 10 years time. What will we see then? It will stimulate debate, it will thrill interior designers, it will provoke arguments, and make our parents very proud indeed.

500 CABINETS: A SHOWCASE OF DESIGN & CRAFTSMANSHIP provides a fine survey of 500 cabinets which are works of art as much as functional furniture. They cover special techniques in shape, detailing, color or more and John Grew Sheridan, himself a leading furniture maker, invites readers to appreciate the qualities of these unique pieces in an outstanding survey for arts and interior design libraries.

As a woodworker these books inspire me to make more edgy and unique projects. I have several of the 500 series and love to page though them to simulate some creative thinking for my next project sketches and plans.
I often leave them out for guests to browse and they frequently become the topic of conversation.

Another good book from Lark Books.I also have a copy of 400 Wooden Boxes and 500 Wooden Bowls.500 Cabinets is well photographed and set out.If it was a hard cover and a bit larger it would make a lovely coffee table book.

If you thought you've seen it all, look at this book. There are definately a lot of creative thinkers out there, I'm not one of them. So I enjoy loking at and studying some of these and some I don't. Either way, this book definately provides design for thought.

Very inspiring book, very creative!! A little bit more description on the work might be nice, but do not take away from the book in any way. Makes me want to be a more creative and better woodworker!!

Very nice pictures of interesting cabinets that are not the standard. Fine woodworking gave me inspiration to be a better woodworker. They include a short descriptions of building materials used.

i've perused some of the other 500 series and this one didn't live up to my expectations. there was not the dearth of design that i hoped for and an overall 'nineties' feel to the collection. a bit one-dimensional for my liking.
